While the connection between the Chesterfield Canal and the River Rother would have been difficult to achieve when the canal followed its original route, the need to create a diversion around housing development in Killamarsh, which has destroyed the former course, makes it much simpler. The current plans for the Chesterfield Canal reinstatement envisage the canal turning to the north and dropping down through five locks to reach Nethermoor Lake, one of four lakes that are part of the Rother Valley Country Park. From the far end of the lake, another six locks would return the level to the existing channel near Norwood. There is a relatively easy route from the lake to the Rother, which would probably require a flood lock for protection.

:: That applies to most all the other sciences too. We really don't need more navboxes hogging the (very scarce) real estate at the tops of articles. Navbars are far less intrusive, but frankly I can't see any need for one with the apparent purpose of what's just gone. Monbiot also thinks that economic recession can be a good thing for the planet: "Is it not time to recognise that we have reached the promised land, and should seek to stay there? Surely the rational policy for the governments of the rich world is now to keep growth rates as close to zero as possible?" While he does recognize that recession can cause hardship, he points out that economic growth can cause hardship as well. :::::::::Edit bodly. It is nonsence to write "GoT editors reading this now, including you, should edit the character page and include this about her", if you meant that seriously. As far as I follow the discussion, nobody is going to write that. I noticed your scepticism about how a paragraph on LGBT in GoT would be recieved but unless someone tries, discussing categories and lists is controversial, and trying to make some else edit something is futile. BTW I think several other editors expressed the same view, i.e. that some info in the article itself should come first. I does not have to be a whole paragprah, only one or two summarizing sentences, if you prefer. --WikiHannibal (talk) 11:16, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

::::::::::I meant it, because I don't watch GoT, and those who are more familiar with this series should rise to the challenge. Someone in another discussion said that editors who aren't familiar with a series contribute content that is based on reliable secondary sources and thereby more trustworthy, compared to editors who rely too much on primary material and personal memory which can result in OR and POV. In my playbook, if I find that something is missing in an article ... I add it. I do the homework and contribute content. But, in my opinion, this article has become a hornet's nest with the over-protection by some editors that push the boundaries of WP:OWN. :::::::::::I think this is a bit misleading and frankly sometimes you see a secondary sources formalism that comes close to idiocy. Ideally the editors should have done both, that is having seen the series and having read the secondary sources. In particular for tv series and movies there are a lot of "low quality" secondary sources which can misread/misunderstood. I've seen plot descriptions for movies assembled from secondary sources which were completely off. Not just by matter of nuances or personal emphasis or preference but off as in describing a basic plot that simply doesn't exist in the movie. This is due misreading secondary sources and not being aware of that due to not having seen the movie. For instance the description in a "low quality" secondary source can be sloppy and/or imprecise. Additional (background) information provided in a secondary source can be misread as being part of the movie plot and similar stuff.--Kmhkmh (talk) 08:23, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman made a declaration of independence at Dacca on 26 March 1971. All major Awami League leaders including elected leaders of National Assembly and Provincial Assembly fled to neighbouring India and an exile government was formed headed by Mujibur Rahman. While he was in Pakistan Prison, Syed Nazrul Islam was the acting president with Tazuddin Ahmed as the prime minister. The exile government took oath on 17 April 1971 at Mujib Nagar, within East Pakistan territory of Kustia district and formally formed the government. Colonel MOG Osmani was appointed the Commander in Chief of Liberation Forces and whole East Pakistan was divided into eleven sectors headed by eleven sector commanders. All sector commanders were Bengali officers who had defected from the Pakistan Army. This started the Bangladesh Liberation War in which the freedom fighters, joined in December 1971 by 400,000 Indian soldiers, faced the Pakistani Armed Forces of 365,000 plus Paramilitary and collaborationist forces. An additional approximately 25,000 ill-equipped civilian volunteers and police forces also sided with the Pakistan Armed Forces. Bloody guerrilla warfare ensued in East Pakistan.

The Pakistan Armed Forces were unable to counter such threats. Poorly trained and inexperienced in guerrilla tactics, Pakistan Armed Forces and their assets were defeated by the Bangladesh Liberation Forces. On April 1971, Lieutenant-General Tikka Khan succeeded General Yaqub Khan as Commander of unified forces. General Tikka Khan led the massive violent and massacre campaigns in the region. He is held responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of Bengali people in East Pakistan, mostly civilians and unarmed peoples. For his role, General Tikka Khan gained the title as "Butcher of Bengal". General Khan faced an international reaction against Pakistan, and therefore, General Tikka was removed as Commander of Eastern front. He installed a civilian administration under Abdul Motaleb Malik on 31 August 1971, which proved to be ineffective. However, during the meeting, with no high officers willing to assume the command of East Pakistan, Lieutenant-General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi volunteered for the command of East Pakistan. Inexperienced and the large magnitude of this assignment, the government sent Vice-Admiral Mohammad Shariff as second-in-command of General Niazi. Admiral Shariff served as the deputy unified commander of Pakistan Armed Forces in East Pakistan. However, General Niazi proved to be a failure and ineffective ruler. Therefore, General Niazi and Air Marshal Enamul Haque, Commander of Eastern Air Force Command (EAFC), failed to launch any operation in East Pakistan against Indian or its allies. Except Admiral Shariff who continued to press pressure on Indian Navy until the end of the conflict. Admiral Shariff's effective plans made it nearly impossible for Indian Navy to land its naval forces on the shores of East Pakistan. The Indian Navy was unable to land forces in East Pakistan and the Pakistan Navy was still offering resistance. The Indian Army, entered East Pakistan from all three directions of the province. The Indian Navy then decided to wait near the Bay of Bengal until the Army reached the shore.

On April 1971, Lieutenant-General Tikka Khan succeeded General Yaqub Khan as Commander of unified forces. General Tikka Khan led the crack-down. Law and order broke down as Bengali and Non-Bengali citizens targeted each other, leading to high casualties. The Indian Air Force dismantled the capability of Pakistan Air Force in East Pakistan. Air Marshal Enamul Haque, Commander of Eastern Air Force Command (EAFC), failed to offer any serious resistance to the actions of the Indian Air Force. For most part of the war, the IAF enjoyed complete dominance in the skies over East Pakistan.

<ref Dear Gentleman Cadet,/ref>

<ref • Congratulations and compliments as you climb another step in your career. In years to come you will assume responsibilities which have few parallels. Each will require 'quality investment', by yourself - for yourself. It is imperative that you have absolute clarity on perspective of what you do. During your stay at the Academy you have been made aware of several facets of being an officer of our proud army. I wish to highlight few issues even at the cost of repetition as it may.

• Yours is the profession of arms with key ingredients of the will to win, the sure knowledge that in a military mission there is no substitute for victory and that if you lose much will be at stake. Trust of the nation is placed in our armed forces – in you. Your uniform comes with blessings of a billion Indians. The very obsession of your public service must therefore be victory for the nation – always and every time. No Victory – No Return must be the dictum. This may imply peril to lives of your own and your team. The ethos of 'unlimited liability' in any assigned mission makes our profession distinct from any other. Unlimited liability implies accomplishment at any cost – your own life.

• Why does the world hold the Indian Army and its soldiers in such high esteem? Let me attempt a summary. Courage, Loyalty, Fidelity and Sacrifice are the basic virtues of our soldiers which are distinctly above the datum prevailing world over. Courage implies physical capacity and more importantly the mental robustness, Loyalty is to the country, comrades and subordinates, and, Fidelity is to the oath you take (remember it your life time). Sacrifice and selflessness often take a backseat as you grow because of inherent discomfort. I exhort you to keep these virtues at the forefront always. If you have control over your 'mind', nothing can cause a deviation. The power of mind is what counts. With Pack Alpha you can go on until you mind does not give up - recall your runbacks. On Courage – remember moral courage is as important for officers in particular.

• Character has been emphasized repeatedly at the Academy. I wish to highlight three facets that are not so often told. Firstly, it is the character that generates a capacity in you to be strong enough to know when you are weak and brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid. I think this is all important. Secondly, with character comes Chivalry - hallmark of an officer. Chivalry relates to ethical, moral and social code of conduct. Here I wish to draw your attention to unwritten codes. You know many of these already and will learn more in due course. Do not ever forget Chivalry while dealing with other officers, men, ladies and the society at large. This virtue has put the officer corps on a pedestal. No action of yours must dilute this standing. Character will also give you inner strength to choose the harder right than easier wrong. Also remember, in life you are answerable to yourself more than anyone else. And you alone will have to make a choice between the right and the wrong. Integrity is an intrinsic virtue of an individual with value system in place. Do not ever compromise despite temptations, in variably the easier wrong.

• What your men will expect of you has been debated with you many times over, even by yourselves, in ante rooms and class rooms. It is yet worth a repetition. Your JCOs and men expect you to maintain highest state of personal appearance – this includes fitness, turnout, dress codes and the way you walk, sit or run. They expect you to possess unassailable personal integrity and highest of morals. They expect you to treat each of them as individuals and with empathy (they are not sympathy seekers). They expect you to have courage to stand for them and defend them when they followed your orders which were in error – to assume the blame when you were in the wrong. Above all they want to see in you the ability to face danger and adversity. Never shy away and attempt escape.

• What can you expect from your span of command? You can expect total loyalty, devotion and admiration. Even if you are found slightly wanting, unlike other armies, our men will still admire you in abundance. They will always match your endurance, spirit and your desire for achievement. Tolerance among them is unparalleled. They will invariably find good in their commanders. It is therefore, imperative for officers – Lieutenants and Generals alike to prove themselves convincingly.

• 'Shaurya – Gyan – Sankalp' has been the motto of our Academy. This sums up the essence of excellence a soldier must strive for. Shaurya will never allow your honor, dignity and commitment to duty to be compromised. Gyan will distinguish you distinctly from your command and help you attain missions with ease. Above all, Sankalp – Resolve, is an extremely critical ingredient. I am sure you can relate to Resolve being the driving force behind many things you have done in your life. Shaurya – Gyan – Sankalp are your rallying points: to build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for it and to create hope when hope seems distant.

• You must respect all who don the uniform. Air Force and Navy are equally important components of our military power. Within Army, all arms and services have a unique role to play, albeit with varying degree of prowess. Do not undermine the importance of anyone. No one goes to battle alone, in any way. Within an arm/service all regiments and units must receive equal magnitude of recognition.

• Marriage must be a balanced affair. Army is a way of life and not merely a profession. This way of life has to be respected and nurtured. Primarily, marriage must not take your energies away from your professional commitments. It must not disturb the social fiber of the army as a larger family. Psychological conditioning of your spouse or spouse to be is important. She must be made fully aware of challenges and compulsions of being a military wife – simultaneous to domestic requirements and personal aspirations. Once married, respect her. Sacrifices made by our spouses have few parallels. At this time, I just say that do not treat this matter– impulsively and casually. More you will learn later.

• I wish to flag another issue of importance that is a task facilitator. And that is the ability to connect through communication. There are two aspects to it. Firstly, as a leader you have a brief time to communicate your instructions. Brevity with absolute precision and clarity is a must for all leaders at all stages of life until Generalship. Secondly, you will deal with people with all types of profile from all walks of life with different intellect and experience – you must be able to connect there as well. For these you will need to prepare – and prepare well and hard.

• Remember ours is a profession of arms. Security of the nation is our business. Confine yourself only to this. Let civilian voices argue merits and merits of the processes of governance, corruption, greed, deficit financing, taxes, the way economy is going due to faulty policies – and so on – none of these should divert your attention. Someone out there is working hard to protect your interests. You just do your job.

• A word on your life as a young officer. I will give some pointers. You can understand the rest. Treat your unit as a Home and be proud of it – best period of your life is spent here. While you may have an opportunity of some outings, the men spend over two dozen years of their prime youth in a unit. Therefore, do not disturb this Home. Be a professional NOT careerist, be naughty – but don't be mean, be outspoken but not loud, be friendly – but not familiar and be a team not an individual. You will learn more as days go by. For the current, remember these basics and add to this – 'I will not step on someone to move ahead.' Let me further add that in next few years you should focus on acquiring requisite skills, play hard and evolve from an individual to a team man. Inculcate reading habit. Try and write as well – writing is a good indicator of how much we do not know. Attempt these earnestly. Knowledge will separate you from the ordinary and help you to have a view point of your own. As a young officer, except breach of integrity, all sins are forgotten. This is an unwritten rule. Therefore, make mistakes but evolve.

• Let me also introduce you to a term, rather philosophical, which you may not have come across yet ……… 212 degrees leadership. Well, here is a law of science that could change your life. 212 degrees refers to Fahrenheit count. At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees it boils. With boiling water comes steam. And steam can power a locomotive. It is one extra degree that makes all the difference. It is this one degree that separates the good from the great. What gets this extra degree? For the time being, just remember to imbibe and implement what you are taught or told during training, formally or informally. More you practice, closer you get to ground effect of 212. Later in life - This aspect will have much larger canvas. That can wait – life teaches.

• All that I have stated may appear to be a tall order. In fact, it is not. All that you are required to be is a 'simple good human being'. Nobility of spirit is paramount in anatomy of military courage and other affairs. Who can stop you from being good? It is 'you – yourself'. Carry out introspection and strengthen your values. There are no templates. Originality will yield better dividends. I can only advise you to 'say what you think and do what you say' – always. Be part of the implementation domain – there is no dearth of talkers on the road side. Make a resolve and adhere to codes (unwritten more important –remember)', and, you will emerge winners all the way – your entire career and entire life ahead.

• I wish you God speed. May you bloom where planted!

Jai Hind.

Yours Sincerely,/ref>

Winter is the coldest season of the year in polar and temperate climates (winter does not occur in tropical climates). It occurs after autumn and before spring in each year. Winter is caused by the axis of the Earth in that hemisphere being oriented away from the Sun. Different cultures define different dates as the start of winter, and some use a definition based on weather. When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. In many regions, winter is associated with snow and freezing temperatures. The moment of winter solstice is when the sun's elevation with respect to the North or South Pole is at its most negative value (that is, the sun is at its farthest below the horizon as measured from the pole). The day on which this occurs has the shortest day and the longest night. The earliest sunset and latest sunrise dates outside the polar regions differ from the date of the winter solstice, however, and these depend on latitude, due to the variation in the solar day throughout the year caused by the Earth's elliptical orbit (see earliest and latest sunrise and sunset).
