Back in November, during a tribute to the victims of last year's horrific Las Vegas shooting, Carrie Underwood broke down on stage.
About a week later, meanwhile, the former American Idol champion announced she had broken her wrist in a fall and needed to undergo surgery for the injury.
Tweeted Underwood at the time:
"I just wanted let everyone know that I'm doing great. Had surgery on my wrist yesterday & all went well...even though I'll be setting off airport metal detectors from now on...
"I'm so thankful for the doctors, nurses, family & friends who've been taking such great care of me."
Over the weekend, however, the beloved singer penned a lengthy blog post on her official fansite that opened up on further detail about this injury, detailing how the accident affected another important body part as well:
"There is also another part of the story that I haven't been ready to talk about, since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up," the artist wrote in this New Year's Eve post, which we've shared below.
"It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well."
Underwood went on to say she would spare supporters the "gruesome details" of what transpired and what had to be done in respond - but added that the doctor said he had put "between 40-50 stitches in."
"Now, here we are 7 weeks later and, even though I've had the best people helping me, I'm still healing and not quite looking the same," Underwood continued in her very candid latter, admitting:
"I honestly don't know how things are going to end up ..."
Underwood, whose last studio album was released in 2015, said she's working on fresh material.
She's excited about the music, but apprehensive about her appearance.
"When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different," she said.
"I'm hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don't know how it's all going to end up."
The only social media photo Underwood has shared of herself since the accident is posted at the outset of this article, as it features the superstar in a full-on face scarf.
Days after co-hosting the Country Music Awards in November, she fell down steps outside her Tennessee house, breaking her wrist and prompting her to cancel an appearance at a fundraising concert for hurricane victims and those affected by the Las Vegas shooting.
We admire her honesty in this blog post, don't you?
It's a reminder that celebrities are very much normal people, concerned about their appearances and about how they'll be received by others when simply walking down the street.
We've always adored Underwood for how she's managed to keep it real in the face of enormous success.
And no matter how her face looks, Underwood will always have an amazing body.
We're just kidding. (Not entirely, of course, she does have an amazing body.)
It's what's on the inside that counts, not the outside, and Carrie has made it clear she has a beautiful inside in every way possible.

If you've been anywhere near social media today, then you're probably aware that Logan Paul apologized in the most half-assed fashion imaginable after posting a video that seemed to have no purpose other than traumatizing his mostly teenage audience.
Not surprisingly, Paul decided (no doubt after a lengthy consultation with his management team) to issue a second mea culpa.
This time around, he went with less of a "self-satisfied douche" tone, and more of a "oh, sh-t, I put a dead body on YouTube! My career might really be over, so I'm genuinely contrite!" vibe.
"I have made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment, and I don't expect to be forgiven. I'm simply here to apologize," Paul told the camera in a brief video clip posted to his Twitter page.
"I should've never posted the video. I should've put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through. There's a lot of things I should've done differently, but I didn't and for that, from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry."
Many have taken issue with the fact that Paul is still acting like he recorded an impromptu video and then hit "send," when in reality, he went to a part of the world famous as a site of numerous suicides, found exactly what he was looking for, and then edited the incident into a video intended both to shock and to boost his public profile.
Paul has found an unlikely defender in Chrissy Teigen, who tweeted a reluctant message of empathy for the controversial YouTube star.
"Re: Logan Paul, something I always think about is when people make…ethical mistakes, as in, not-illegal, should we really be trying I ruin their lives and end their careers or accept the apology, personally make a choice to stop watching, and move on," she wrote.
"I'm not saying what he did wasn't sick and stupid and his videos aren't or haven't been stupid, I'm saying…a lot of you don't know what it's like to have a campaign to end your entire being."
At this point, Chrissy might be more famous as a social media firebrand than as a model, so when it comes to bearing the brunt of public outrage, she knows whereof she speaks.
But it's important to point out that none of the sane people who have been involved in this debate are calling for Logan to be publicly executed.
The consensus seems to be that he should simply go away for a while, as he's proven that he's not the kind of person who should be generating content for impressionable young people.
In his second apology, Paul stated that he doesn't "expect to be forgiven," but that's clearly not the case.
He wants this to be over as quickly as possible so that he can continue making obscene amounts of money with cruel and problematic "prank" videos.
No PR magic is going to make the public forget that Paul mocked a suicide victim in front of an audience of millions.
Fellow YouTube star Nate Garner tweeted that Paul should donate his 2018 YouTube revenue to suicide prevention charities.
That's a start, but we'd prefer that Paul donate his 2017 revenues, take 2018 off entirely, and come back when he learns the difference between comedy and exploitative cruelty.

The Today Show introduced a new face to viewers this morning.
Actually, that's not true:
The Today Show introduced an old face to viewers this morning... in a new position.
Savanna Guthrie opened the first fresh show of 2018 by confirming what some in the industry have suspected for the past couple weeks:
Hoda Kotb is no longer a temporary co-anchor on Today; she's the permanent replacement for Matt Lauer, who was fired in late November due to numerous allegations of sexual misconduct.
Said Guthrie in making this announcement:
"Welcome to Today and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is officially the co-anchor of Today, so let's give her a round of applause...
"This has to be the most popular decision NBC News has ever made and I am so thrilled."
It certainly is true that Kotb is a beloved member of this network's large family.
Consider what Kathie Lee Gifford told People Magazine of her long-time friend and colleague:
"I feel happy for her because she is having the greatest year of her life, and if she's happy, I'm happy for her.
"What's happening to her now is something she would have given anything for earlier on in her career...
"Everybody universally adores her. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She's more loving and kind, so when these wonderful things started happening for this wonderful woman, we were thrilled for her."
While it's not surprising that Gifford would comment on Kotb's promotion, the new full-time co-host revealed to Entertainment Tonight that someone unexpected contacted her with congratulations as well:
"I did hear from [Matt], yeah," Kotb told ET, adding:
"He texted me and he said congratulations and some really nice words, and it meant the world when I saw the text pop up... it meant the world to see that."
Lauer has been accused of some horrible actions, but Kotb admits she keeps in touch with the disgraced reporter.
"Matt is our good friend and continues to be, and I think for both of us, we've just been trying to navigate this time and honor our love and friendship with Matt, but also understand and try to learn more about these circumstances," she explains.
"So, it's complicated when you are surprised by revelations, but you still care deeply for somebody who's a friend.
"I think for all of us, we've just been trying to navigate through that, with straightforwardness and honesty and integrity."
Also speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the revamped setup, along with the man who prompted this change, Guthrie noted:
"This has been a really hard time for this show that we love and the people who put the show together - we care so much - and having Hoda right with me every second of the way has meant everything.
"And we kind of held onto each other, and then discovered along the way that there's a real partnership here, and so how wonderful that now it's permanent, we get to just do it every day."
Hoda has been with NBC since 1998.
She had been anchoring her own hour of Today with Gifford for several years, but will now get a chance to greet millions of people first thing every single morning.
We're very happy for her.

Amber Portwood has had quite the tumultuous year, and she was probably more than happy to bid 2017 adieu.
But if you expected her to close out a trip around the sun without pissing fans off one more time then you don't know Amber!
That's a photo of Amber's new boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, hanging out with her 8-year-old daughter, Leah Shirley.
Perhaps it's Glennon's sketchy past, or the fact that he and Amber really haven't been together very long, but for whatever reason, fans were not happy to see the Marriage Boot Camp producer looking so cozy with Leah.
"I like Amber and I said she's come a long way. But she brings men into her daughter's life seemingly quickly and to see this girl next to a man she knows less than 8 months I'm going to say. Even under a year," wrote one commenter.
"It's not like they've been a family for a long time. I just felt uneasy that she'd put and or let her daughter be in the position/situation," She continued.
Other followers remarked on the fact that Amber hasn't been spending much time with Leah due to a struggle with depression, noting that her emotional issues didn't seem to prevent her from dating.
"She is too depressed to spend time with Leah but not to go get a new Matt I mean man," one fan remarked.
"Then she pretty much forces them on Leah. And she was saying what a great guy Matt was last year."
"Bringing in the New Years right with healthy food lol, " Amber captioned the photo, which appears to have been taken in her bed. "Happy New Years everyone! Sending all our love from my little growing family to yours!"
As you may know, Amber isn't one to shy away from conflict, so naturally, she gave fans a piece of her mind in a lengthy, obscenity-laced tirade:
"Anybody saying this is weird needs to look at themselves," Portwood began.
"You are f**king disgusting if your head goes straight to filth. We are a happy and loving family. We don't need ignorant people commenting on our pictures which is why I don't post pictures! Leah thought this picture was cute and funny and I would hate for her to see these comments!!"
Portwood was far from finished, though as connoisseurs of online tirades, we must note that she gets a bit repetitive from here on out:
"Anyone with rude and obscene comments can f--k off!! I share my life and family with you all however that doesn't mean I need everyone's ignorant opinions!" she wrote.
"It's sad when my 9 year old thinks a picture is funny and cute and I can't even post it without f**ked up comments from ignorant people. I have an amazing daughter and a loving and brilliant man. Andrew is a kind hearted loving man and takes good care of his new growing family! Send love not hate!!"
Normally we'd drop a sarcastic "tell us what ya really think!" here, but we don't want to risk pissing Amber off.

Kim Kardashian did not necessarily ring in the new year with a glass of champagne and a kiss for Kanye West.
Instead, the reality star sadly welcomed 2018 with a dash of concern and a healthy helping of worry, following a pretty serious health scare for son Saint.
According to multiple sources (including Kim herself), the two-year old was hospitalized for multiple days around Christmas due to a case of pneumonia.
TMZ insider say the toddler was admitted on Thursday and released on Saturday, with Kim and Kanye taking turns spending those two nights with him.
The poor little guy is now resting comfortably at home.
The illness appears to have come out of nowhere, as Kim happily hung out with Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez on Wednesday evening and also shared a rare family photo with her followers.
How do we know all was well at the time this was snapped?
Kanye is almost smiling in the picture!
In response to the reports about her son and his status, and due to an outpouring of support and concern, Kardashian addresses the frightening situation on Instagram.
She wrote the following:
My precious baby boy is so strong! After spending three nights in the hospital & seeing my baby get multiple IV's and hooked up to oxygen machines, our end of year was challenging. Pneumonia is so scary.
I just want to thanks every nurse & doctor out there who works so hard around the clock.
We are so grateful for you all! He's home and all better. He's so resilient I'm sure he will still say the ambulance ride was cool! My strong Saint.
Pneumonia really can be a serious infection.
It impacts the lungs and typically develops following another illness, such as a cold or the flu, the latter of which can also be dangerous for little kids.
Kim and Kanye are also parents to a four-year old named North.
They are expecting their third child via surrogate any week now.
Not a lot is known about the woman who will be giving birth, but multiple reports have stated it will be another girl.
So we're glad Saint is now feeling better and we hope both he and the family get a chance to sit back and rest over the next few days.
Lord knows, once that newborn arrives, sleep will be at a premium!

After the release of her 1989 album, it seemed Taylor Swift could do no wrong.
Then 2017 happened.
Obviously, Taylor is still cranking out the hits, and her popularity shows no signs of waning.
However, her carefully cultivated "everybody's bestie" image has taken some serious hits in the past year.
Taylor's feud with Kim Kardashian may have made the most waves, but the singer drew criticism for a number of other public dust-ups, as well.
From rumors that Taylor supports Donald Trump to complaints that she attacked her rivals too viciously on her new album, it's been one PR mini-crisis after another.
Through it all, of course, the most loyal Swifties have stood by their queen.
But the latest Taylor-related controversy might prove to be the last straw for some faithful fans.
Countless corporate tie-ins and bizarre promotional stunts have led to criticism that the already-fabulously wealthy Swift is overly concerned with further enriching herself at the expense of her fans.
Thus far, it's a strategy that's paid dividends, but some believe Taylor has gone too far with her latest cash-grab.
Fans who attempted to buy tickets for her upcoming tour experienced major sticker shock when they found that seats cost several times more than on her 1989 tour.
Some potential concertgoers complained that they had hoped to see Taylor in the same venue as last time, but were stunned to find they were being asked to pay 3 to 4 times as much.
"I paid $150 for my ticket with amazing seats for the 1989 tour. Now for the same seats I have to pay about $500," tweeted one fan.
It's a situation that's resulted in a lot of pissed off Swifties--and a lot of empty seats.
"Sales so far have been a mega disappointment," one music industry insider tells the New York Post.
"There are hundreds if not thousands of tickets left for every show."
Fan irritation seems to have been exacerbated by a number of promotions that allow buyers to purchase tickets at a lower price--provided they're willing to shell out for Taylor's merchandise.
"To get 'further in line' to buy Taylor Swift tickets she wants you [to] buy merch from her … this greedy snake," tweeted one critic.
As a result of what appear to be major miscalculations by Team Taylor, the Reputation Tour has not sold out a single show thus far.
Tickets have been on sale since Taylor's birthday, December 13.
Compare that to the 1989 tour, which "sold out in minutes," according to industry analysts.
In the past year, Taylor has proven that she can feud with other celebrities, and her most devoted fans will only love her more for baring her teeth.
However, if she decides to lock horns with the folks who have made her one of the biggest stars on the planet, that's a fight she'll likely regret.

It's early, but this may already be the understatement of the year:
The Roloffs enjoyed quite a 2017.
We say this for two very cute reasons.
One is named Jackson Kyle Roloff.
The other is named Ember Jean Roloff.
Jackson was born to Tori and Zach in May, while Ember followed a few months later, entering the world of parents Audrey and Jeremy in September.
These bundles of joy made 2017 a year to remember for all Little People, Big World stars, as they reflected on the past 12 months and looked ahead to what's to come in a series of Instagram posts over the weekend.
Wrote Tori, for example:
"2017 has had our lowest lows and our highest highs. I can honestly say it's been the best year of my life. Thanks for sharing it with me!"
She then addressed her husband again, sharing the photo below along with this affiliated message:
"2018 is going to be pretty rad, as long as I have you by my side."
Amy, meanwhile, spent the holiday weekend with controversial boyfriend Chris Marek.
She sat comfortably in her lap while surrounded by other friends and wrote to her followers:
"From all of us to you Happy New Year! What a Year. Ups and downs but always full of hope! As we see 2017 end I hope you are bringing in 2018 with a lot of possibilities still.
"Much love to you."
Jeremy, for his part, pointed fans to his wife's Instagram story and said that Ember was definitely the "highlight of our year."
We'd have to imagine so.
Audrey, though, had A LOT more to say on the topic.
Along with the montage of family photo shared at the outset of this article, the relatively new mother of one opened up like always to her many supporters.
"My word for 2017 was FRUITFUL," opened Audrey, prying to explaining thusly:
"The Lord pressed this word on my heart sometime in December of last year. We had just launched our marriage journal, the @beating50 community was multiplying, and we we're part of a community that was growing and edifying us in ways that beared so much fruit
"The word seemed to be a fitting proclaimation of hopeful expectation over 2017.
"When I found out we were pregnant on January 7th, I realized the hidden significance as to why this word would mark our year. It was almost as if I was seeing God smirk at me when I looked down at those two pink lines. 'Oh, that kind of fruitful...'"
She wasn't done, however.
Referencing her faith and her family in more detail, Roloff concluded:
And it was a fruitful year. The Lord expanded our boundaries in ministry, business, community, and family.
We continued to pour into our Beating50percent and ALWAYS MORE ministries, filmed two more seasons of LPBW, moved back to Portland and bought our first home, whethered two remodels (one unintended), made it though another successful pumpkin season, and had our first baby.
The year flew by in a furry and many moments were blurred but the pressure of time and the looming tyrany of the urgent.
Which leads me to our word for 2018, nominated by Jeremy this year - RHYTHM.
We are looking forward to establishing new healthy rhythms and learning the "unforced rhythms of grace" in 2018.
TLC is yet to announce a return date for Little People, Big World.
Look for new episodes this spring, however.

Despite the fact that their marriage ended over a year ago, Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin appeared on the latest season of Marriage Boot Camp, and as you might expect from a divorced couple participating in a bunch of bonding exercises, it got ugly in a hurry.
In one particularly brutal episode, Javi submitted to a lie detector test, in which he answered questions about his alleged infidelity in a way that might have been useful when he and Kail were still married.
Not surprisingly, it turned out Marroquin wasn't completely faithful during his marriage to Lowry.
Equally unsurprising is the fact that Kail wasn't too keen on hearing all the details of his cheating.
"I always knew but I really didn't want it to be confirmed and definitely [not] the way that it was confirmed — hence my initial question on Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars," Kail recently told In Touch Weekly.
Yes, it seemed the question that Kail wanted answered was one that's far more pertinent to her life post-Javi--namely, "Do you purposely try to prevent me from succeeding?"
For obvious reasons, producers opted for the more scandalous query, which resulted in a situation where Kail had to stand there and listen to the truth about her ex-husband's cheating in front of a full camera crew.
Fortunately, the mother of three is eager to put the past behind her.
"2017 broke me," Kail tweeted, adding, "But we got this 2018."
"Last year on NYE I came home from Denver and told [Bone Estrada] I was pregnant."
These days, Kail seems to be in a much better place, and she's actively documenting the struggles of being a single mother of three, not only for her fans, but also for the benefit of sons, so they might one day understand how much hardship she's endured.
"So I started writing this book to lux... basically an apology letter to him... a letter to lux... now it's a book to all 3 of my boys. And i can't think of the perfect title," Lowry tweeted yesterday.
Yes, it seems that even though she has no intention of collaborating with Javi on a pair of memoirs, as she'd once planned, Kailyn has no plans to stop cranking out bestsellers.
She recently announced that her eldest son, Isaac, will be illustrating a children's book about the family's pet French bulldog.
This new project is in addition to her other planned books, her new podcast, and of course, continuing to thrive as one of the resident fan favorites on Teen Mom 2.
No wonder she has no difficulty leaving Javi's cheating in the past, where it belongs.
Needless to say, Ms. Lowry wasn't lying when she said she's got the new year on lock.
