U2’s Bono Stands for Women in New Time Magazine Essay

Posted: 04 Jan 2018 02:12 PM PST

By Scott T. Sterling

Bono thinks it’s long overdue for men to do their part in the fight for women’s rights.

Related: U2's Bono Reveals Near Fatal Health Scare in New Interview

The U2 frontman has penned a thoughtful and passionate new essay for TIME magazine centered on countering rampant misogyny around the world.

“I say it seemed obvious to me, but if I'm honest, it didn't always,” Bono reveals in the piece. “I have been home-schooled on this issue in a very powerful way by my wife Ali and our two daughters (Jordan and Eve).”

The singer talks about the conversation in his household back in 2016 when he was recognized as Glamour magazine’s first Man of the Year along with their annual selection of Women of the Year.

“Jordan reminds me, there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunity as men. Nowhere,” he writes. “Which has something to do with the fact that around the world, there are 130 million girls who are not in school. That's so many girls that, if they made up their own country, it would be bigger in population than Germany or Japan.”

Bono stresses the need for equal access to education, and that any advancements benefiting women will benefit all.

“It just may be that in these times, the most important thing for men and women to do is to look across to each other–and then start moving, together, in the same direction,” he concludes. “Making education a priority is a way of making equality a priority, and even men with limited vision should see that's the only way forward.”

Kelly Clarkson on Handling a Toddler Meltdown

Posted: 04 Jan 2018 01:27 PM PST

By Joe Hyer

Kelly Clarkson is one of the most honest and real celebrities that you could ever meet. Yes, we’ve known that for years, but we are reminded about how honest and real she is whenever we get to hear from her.

We recently caught up with Kelly Clarkson for an exclusive interview where she opened up about everything from her new music to her style of parenting. In fact, it’s safe to say that Kelly knows a thing or two about parenting. The American Idol (and upcoming coach on The Voice) has a 3-year-old daughter, River Rose, and a 1-year-old son, Remy. Plus, she is a stepmother to 16-year-old, Savannah, and 9-year-old, Seth.

Kelly is a major celebrity, so how does she handle moments when her toddler daughter has a meltdown in public?

“She’s (River Rose) been crying in public and I’ve totally carried her out (of a public place) going ‘enjoy your day,’ Clarkson told us. “People obviously recognize me.”

Kelly also went on to say that she’s not “above a spanking.” Though as she clarifies in the interview, she just means “a tap” on her daughter’s “bottom.”

“I don’t mean hitting her hard. I just mean a spanking,” Kelly told Entercom. “But that’s a tricky thing when you’re out in public.”

Keith Urban Was ‘Disturbed’ by Nicole Kidman’s Role in ‘Big Little Lies’

Posted: 04 Jan 2018 10:02 AM PST

By Scott T. Sterling

For many who watched HBO series Big Little Lies, scenes of Nicole Kidman’s character being abused by her husband (played by actor Alexander Skarsgard) were hard to watch.

Among those who had a tough time taking in those scenes was Kidman’s husband, Keith Urban.

Kidman opened up about her country star hubby’s reaction to some of her more intense dramatic roles of 2017, including Big Little Lies and feature film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer during a recent interview with W.

“[Keith Urban] is an artist. Um, he did have a hard time when he watched The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” Kidman revealed. “He saw it at the Cannes Film Festival and he was sort of hypnotized and shattered by it. [Laughs.] And when he watched Big Little Lies he was disturbed; he says that when he hears me scream or cry from a certain place in my soul it's almost like it goes straight into him and he has a visceral reaction immediately. Because his brain and his heart doesn't discern between acting and real life. They're the same sounds for him. It throws him.”

Kidman praised her husband in the interview, calling him a good man who supports her and their children 100 percent.

“I had a great male figure in my life who helped to form me. And as much as I was raised by my mother, I was raised by my father, too,” she explained. “And to emphasize that is important right now—the need for the support of good men in society. You know, we need that. You can't do it alone. So I love saying that I'm married to a really generous, kind, strong male. And Keith [Urban] is incredibly supportive of me and his daughters.”

The actress also shared memories of her first date with Urban: “Picked me up on a motorbike, took me to Woodstock. My kind of guy.”

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Hits Arts & Crafts Store: Watch Him As He Sews

Dave Grohl is truly an inspiration.

The Foo Fighters frontman is among the faithful keeping rock and roll alive and kicking, and that spirit is with him wherever he goes. Even if he’s just kicking it an arts and crafts store.

Grohl was spotted picking up a few things at his local Michael’s craft store, prompting a great selfie with a fan that hit Reddit recently.

The image of Grohl hanging the aisles of a crafts store inspired some fans to dream up some rather stellar Foo Fighters-related puns to caption the moment.

“There goes my hero. Watch him as he sews,” an obvious play on Foo Fighters’ 1997 classic, “My Hero,” seems to be the clear fan favorite.

Other fans put spins on “Everlong” ("If any thread could ever feel this reel forever") and “Best Of You” ("Is someone knitting a vest, a vest, a vest with you?").

Taylor Swift Lawyers Move to Dismiss ‘Shake It Off’ Lawsuit

Posted: 04 Jan 2018 06:00 AM PST

By Hayden Wright

Many Taylor Swift fans are too young to remember 3LW, the short-lived girl group spun from the Cheetah Girls, but the group’s single “Players Gon’ Play” is the subject of a lawsuit against Taylor Swift.

Related: Taylor Swift Adds Dates to Reputation Tour

3LW songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler sued Swift in September, claiming the lyrics of her song “Shake it Off” infringed on those found in their 2001 track.

Swift’s track includes the lines, “The players gonna play, play, play, play, play/ and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.” 3LW’s less wordy tune features the phrase, “Players, they gon’ play/ and haters are gonna hate.”

On Wednesday (Jan. 3), Swift’s legal team moved to dismiss the copyright lawsuit, arguing that the phrase should be in the public domain, reports Variety.

“There can be no copyright protection in 'playas, they gonna play and haters, they gonna hate,' because it would impermissibly monopolize the idea that players will play and haters will hate,” Swift's lawyers wrote in the motion.

“Plaintiffs' claim to being the only ones in the world who can refer to players playing and haters hating is frivolous…,” the suit continued. “Providing a copyright monopoly in the phrase would prevent others from sharing the idea that players play and haters hate.”

In their response to the suit, Taylor’s team also cites lyrics that include similar ideas: “Players only love you when they’re playing” from Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” and “"We have, the playas, and we have, the playa haters" from the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Playa Hater.”
