Hayley Williams Invites ‘Stranger Things’ Star to Sing with Paramore

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 02:00 PM PST

By Scott T. Sterling

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo’s real life is about to get a little bit stranger.

Paramore singer Hayley Williams has invited Matarazzo to come perform with the band at an upcoming show.

The invitation was inspired after Williams saw a video of the Stranger Things actor singing a Paramore song with his own band.

“Dear Gaten, (Paramore guitarist) Taylor York & I saw your band's (“Misery Business”) cover and all i can say is,” Williams wrote on Twitter with a devil horns emoji. “Open invite to crash a pmore stage and thrash those luscious locks around (& harmonize, obv) whenever the spirit (of rock) leads you.”

Matarazzo was quick to accept Williams’ invitation with a Twitter response: “Dude!! Yesss!!!! Let's make this happen!”

Williams coolly let the Stranger Things star know that she would send him Paramore’s tour itinerary for him to pick a date for his big moment with the band. See the tweets below.

A great reminder to dream big, because dreams do come true. Especially when you star on a huge Netflix show.

Radiohead’s Publisher Issues Statement On Lana Del Rey Copyright Dispute

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:00 PM PST

By Scott T. Sterling

Publishers for the band Radiohead have something to say about an alleged Lana Del Rey lawsuit.

The situation was ignited earlier this week when Lana Del Rey tweeted that Radiohead was suing her over the song, “Get Free,” for its resemblance to the band’s hit, “Creep.”

Related: Radiohead Won't Attend Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony

“It's true about the lawsuit,” she wrote regarding the track from her most recent album, Lust for Life. “Although I know my song wasn't inspired by Creep, Radiohead feel it was and want 100% of the publishing – I offered up to 40 over the last few months but they will only accept 100. Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court.”

Del Rey doubled-down on her claims at a concert in Denver, telling fans that “Get Free” might not be included on future physical versions of Lust for Life.

Today (Jan. 9), Radiohead’s publisher, Warner/Chappell, has released a statement clarifying their part in the situation:

“As Radiohead's music publisher, it's true that we've been in discussions since August of last year with Lana Del Rey's representatives,” a spokesman for the company said (via The New York Times). “It's clear that the verses of ‘Get Free’ use musical elements found in the verses of ‘Creep’ and we've requested that this be acknowledged in favor of all writers of ‘Creep.’ To set the record straight, no lawsuit has been issued and Radiohead have not said they ‘will only accept 100%' of the publishing of ‘Get Free.'”

The New York Times points out that Radiohead’s “Creep” was the subject of its own plagiarism lawsuit. Radiohead was successfully sued by publishers for the Hollies’ song, “The Air That I Breathe.” Now, Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood of the Hollies are credited as co-writers on “Creep” and get a cut of the song’s royalties.

The track marks the launch of ColdNation Records, Beasley’s new label with music producer Victor “Phazz” Clark.

“Today, I am releasing my first song off of my album which will also be released later this spring,” Beasely shared in a press release on Twitter. “Music has been a passion of mine for quite some time now. It started as a kid in high school, in a car with my friends rapping for fun. In college I purchased a program called Studio One with money from a stipend check. That is when I started writing my own music.”

The Cowboys receiver that he’s in for the love of music, and has no plans on taking his rap on the road (“that lifestyle is not for me”). He insists he’s still first and foremost a father and a football player.

“Some people will question my loyalty to football, but the passion for that WILL NOT change,” he stressed. “My aim is to do exactly what I have been doing for the past 6 years, making music because that is what I enjoy doing.”

Beasley’s NFL career is chronicled in his rhymes, with the receiver name-checking both Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and owner Jerry Jones in one of his verses: “I'm bossed out but Sunday, Jerry's boss now when I ball out, I'm a dog when Dak get the ball out.”

The pop star has shared a new video from her recently launched  Minute + a Glass of Wine series featuring favorite moments from her first trip to the annual ceremony hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press, highlighted by her encounter with actress Meryl Streep on the red carpet.

“This cheek has been caressed by Meryl Streep,” Clarkson gushes at the onset of the video, where the singer admits that she’s had some wine and is definitely feeling it during the clip: “That’s what they do at the Golden Globes. They fill you up with wine so you make poor decisions. I wanted sweet tea if it was an option. It wasn’t. Just wine, so here’s where we are.”

Clarkson raves about how nice Streep was to meet, even though she’s not sure the actress was aware of who she was meeting.

The pop star goes on to talk about finally meeting actor Steve Carell, 13 years after his notorious scene in The 40-Year-Old Virgin where he screams her name while getting his chest waxed.

Clarkson also had raves for Golden Globes host Seth Myers, saying that “if you don’t watch Seth Meyers, you’re stupid.”

Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke also gets a nice shout-out in the clip.

Maddie & Tae Reveal Depression Struggles, Share Positive Outlook for 2018

By Annie Reuter

Maddie & Tae had a difficult 2017 and they open up about it with fans in an emotional 10-minute video. The country duo, made up of Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye, lost their record deal with Dot Records last year when the label shut down. As a result, they began questioning their career and next steps. As Marlow explains, she suffered with depression because of it.

“If I’m being honest, I went through a really, pretty tough depression after the label thing happened,” she shares in the video. “I always was the person that had a plan, had it figured out, and I never [have] been dropped on my ass before. That was really hard and my self-worth was tied into it, my purpose, everything.”

The duo got through the hurdle of losing their record deal together and months later signed with Universal Music Group. Instead of looking back at the struggle they went through as a bad thing, Marlow says it has made her stronger.

“I truly look in the mirror and love who I am today because of the pain that I had to go through to get here,” Marlow says. “I’m not going to allow my trials to defeat me, I’m going to let them build me up and learn from them and take as much wisdom as I can from each trial. The biggest lesson I learned in 2017 is do the best with what you have with where you are.”

The duo look ahead to 2018 optimistically and promise new music is on the way. Watch their video below.

One of the more poignant songs on his new album is a song called “I Lived It,” which he performed Monday evening. The final track on the LP, the song paints the picture of a man looking back fondly on his youth. “That's just the kind of life that made me who I am,” Shelton sings on the ballad.

Backed by his full band for the powerful performance, Shelton stood at the front of the stage with his acoustic guitar as a crowd of fans looked on while he sang the sweet ballad.

Shelton also sang his most recent No. 1 single “I’ll Name the Dogs.” The feel-good track had him smiling as he sang about the decision to settle down.

“You plant the flowers, I'll plant the kisses / Baby, let's get right down to business / I'll hang the pictures, you hang the stars / You pick the paint, I'll pick a guitar / Sing you a song out there with the crickets and the frogs / You name the babies and I'll name the dogs,” he sings to an audience screaming along.

Though Fergie has spun off in her solo direction and is therefore absent from the group, will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo appear on the song, which tackles the prison industrial complex, immigration, police brutality and more. The track’s slow burn is set to a jazzy brass arrangement that evokes the Jazz age and 20th-century civil rights landmarks.

“We have the POWER to make change together,” the group announced on Twitter. “These issues are critical for our families, friends, communities, and world. Stay Woke, Take Action Now.”

In addition to the single, the Peas released a black-and-white music video that takes viewers back in time. Protest movements in history are depicted and the mouths on photos of Martin Luther King and Black Lives Matter activists are animated so they rap the song’s lyrics.

The song’s message doubles as a call to action: The Peas asked fans to sign a pledge and get involved with foundations like the Hip Hop Caucusi.am.angel foundationBlack Alliance for Just ImmigrationCommunity Justice Reform CoalitionPICO’s LIVE Free Campaign#SchoolsNotPrisonsThe Gathering for Justice and United We Dream.
