( Daily Mail ) President Donald Trump fired off a warning tweet to North Korea Tuesday night, taunting leader Kim Jong Un who said in his New Year speech that Americans should be aware he has a ‘button’ for nuclear weapons.
Trump warned the hermit country: ‘North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un just stated that the ”Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!’
The threat came after an annual speech given by Kim, in which he cautioned: ‘The U.S. should know that the button for nuclear weapons is on my table.’
Kim warned America that it can ‘never start a war against me and our country’ and insisted his nukes are now a reality, not a threat.
Despite the ongoing war of words, Pyongyang this morning revealed it will reopen a hotline with South Korea to discuss attending the Winter Olympics.

( Daily Caller ) The New York Times published an article over the weekend laying out a new origin story for the FBI's investigation into possible Trump campaign collusion with the Russian government.
The infamous Steele dossier was not the catalyst for the investigation, according to four unnamed government officials who spoke to The Times. Rather, a drunken barroom conversation that Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos had with an Australian diplomat in London in May 2016 was what led to the FBI probe.
"It's too convenient," Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican member of the House Judiciary Committee, told The Daily Caller of the Times' article.
"The Democrats touted the Steele dossier's conspiracy theories all year. But now, with the dossier's credibility in tatters, they're suddenly claiming that it was a totally irrelevant document all along," another source familiar with the congressional Russia investigations told TheDC.
According to The Times' report, the Russia investigation began at the end of July 2016 after the FBI was told by the Australian government about a conversation that Papadopoulos had two months earlier with Alexander Downer, Australia's top diplomat to the United Kingdom.
Perhaps the most scathing takedown of the Times report comes from Andrew McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor who writes for National Review.
McCarthy notes that the Times had already previously identified a spark for the Russia investigation: former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
The Times reported on April 20, 2017 that a trip that Page made to Moscow in July 2016 was "a catalyst for the F.B.I. investigation into connections between Russia and President Trump's campaign."
The Steele dossier alleges that during that trip, Page met secretly with two Kremlin insiders and that he also served as the Trump campaign's liaison to the Kremlin. Page has vehemently denied the allegation. He has also said he had very little interaction with Papadopoulos during the campaign.
The FBI and Justice Department were so concerned by Page's involvement in the campaign that they obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrant against him in Sept. 2016.
But McCarthy points out that there has been no suggestion that a similar surveillance warrant was obtained for Papadopoulos. If the FBI and Justice Department were "so alarmed" by Papadopoulos' conversation with Downer, why did they not obtain a FISA warrant against him, McCarthy wonders in his article.
McCarthy also questions why, if Papadopoulos was central to the FBI investigation, he remained unidentified for so long in press reports.
"If Papadopoulos had really been the impetus for the investigation way back in July 2016, what are the chances that we would never have heard his name mentioned until after his guilty plea was announced 15 months later?" asks McCarthy.
Jordan, the House Judiciary Committee Republican, echoed that point.
"When they're leaking about the dossier and Carter Page back in the spring, where was this then?" he asked, referring to leaks from U.S. government officials.

The details of the meeting were not reported, but according to CNN, the president’s outside legal team was hoping to better understand the next steps in the probe and when it might come to an end.
Trump’s lawyers have repeatedly predicted that investigation would wrap up quickly, though media reports indicate that the probe could continue well into 2018.
Neither the White House nor the special counsel’s office immediately responded to The Hill’s requests for comment.
It was not the first time Trump’s lawyers have met with Mueller’s team. But the meeting came after investigators wrapped up interviews with White House officials they had requested to speak with.
Mueller and his team are looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, as well as possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

The 40-page report, titled "Mapping the Swamp" and released by government watchdog group OpenTheBooks, focused on the "size, scope and power" of the federal government — and found salary spending for high-paid employees on the rise.
"The number of highly compensated federal employees is growing," the report said, describing six-figure salaries as increasingly common.
According to the report, the number of federal employees making $200,000 or more increased by 165 percent between fiscal 2010 and 2016. Federal employees making $150,000 or more grew by 60 percent, with the number making more than $100,000 increasing by 37 percent in the same time period.
The group put its figures in context by comparing these plush payment packages with those of America’s governors.
"Nearly 30,000 rank-and-file federal employees who received more than $190,823 out-earned each of the 50 state governors," the report said.
Currently, the top gubernatorial earners are Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, who makes $190,823; Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, who makes $187,500; and California Gov. Jerry Brown, who makes $182,971. The lowest-paid governor is Maine Gov. Paul LePage, making just $70,000, according to numbers from Ballotpedia.

London's Metropolitan Police force will not bother to investigate crimes if officers are required to watch CCTV for more than 20 minutes or there is no footage available.
The UK's largest force will also drop investigations into thousands of lower-level offences and ignore certain crimes such as vandalism, vehicle crime, and fuel theft if damages do not exceed £50.
The new "crime assessment policy" was uncovered after a Freedom of Information request by The Times, and comes a time of increasing budgetary pressures and falling police numbers.
Sadiq's London: Knife Crime, Gun Crime, Theft, Burglary, Rape, Homicide all MASSIVELY Up
Data from the Mayor of London's Police and Crime Office — led by former lobbyist-turned-Deputy Mayor Sophie Linden — reveals a sharp uptick in violent crime in Khan's first year.
From the years 2015/16 to 2016/17, homicides in London rose by 27.1 per cent. Youth homicide jumped 70 per cent. Serious youth violence was up 19 per cent. Robbery was up 33.4 per cent, while home burglaries rose by 18.7 per cent.
Theft went up by over 10,000 incidents in a year, up 33.9 per cent, and there were more than 4,000 additional knife crime incidents under Khan than under his predecessor, a rise of 31.3 per cent.
Rape in the capital rose by 18.3 per cent, while there were 2,551 incidents of gun crime, representing a rise of 16.3 per cent on the previous year.

( Daily Mail ) A witness who testified before a federal grand jury that handed down indictments of top Trump associates says the president can’t get a fair shake and compared the jury room to a Bernie Sanders rally.
The witness claimed two of 20 jurors were wearing ‘peace T-shirts,’ and popped off on the jury pool to the New York Post‘s Page Six.
‘The grand jury room looks like a Bernie Sanders rally,’ the witness said. ‘Maybe they found these jurors in central casting, or at a Black Lives Matter rally in Berkeley,’ said the witness.
‘There was only one white male in the room, and he was a prosecutor,’ said the source.
The person said of 20 jurors, 11 are African-American.
That figure closely mirrors the racial composition of Washington, D.C., which is 49 per cent black. The jury pool, if the source is accurate, is 49 per cent black.
In some cases, D.C. has had difficulty getting juries to match the racial composition of the city, the Washington Post has reported, due to difficulty getting poor minorities to answer the call for jurors and a higher proportion of young black men being eligible due to criminal convictions.
‘That room isn’t a room where POTUS gets a fair shake,’ said the source, using shorthand common in the White House for and D.C. insiders for the president.

France New Year’s Eve celebration: a female police officer savagely attacked by a mob of African migrants screaming ‘start a fire’, over 1,000 cars were burned overnight and 510 arrests took place
New Year's Eve celebrations in France led to national outcry after footage of a female police officer being savagely attacked surfaced, among reports that over 1,000 cars were burned overnight and 510 arrests took place.
The female police officer was attacked alongside her male inspector in the Paris suburb of Champigny-sur-Marne by a large mob in the early hours of Monday morning, with both individuals being hospitalised.
In the footage widely shared to social media, a large group of African appearance males stand around cheering as a female police officer is kicked to the ground, taking several blows to the head. In other parts of social media footage shared by Front National member of parliament Gilbert Collard, men cheer as cars are rolled over.
France's RTL reports the officers had become isolated from their colleagues while trying to calm a disturbance related to a New Year's party in the Parisian suburb. While reinforcements were quickly deployed, with officers using "grenades and gunfire" to disperse the crowd, it was too late for the attacked officers to escape injury. Several government vehicles including two fire engines were also damaged during the unrest.
