DML The Truth Feb 12

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:17 AM PST

Written by DML
Monday, Feb 12, 2017. Former INS agent Michael Cutler helped me explain the new GOP immigration proposal.

Cutler and I explained how terrible the bill is for the American people.

I also explained how we could see a repeat of the Secure Fence Act of 2016. In short, any deal for the wall should NOT be attached to amnesty.

Finally, I urged Team DML to ship back their MAGA hats to the White House as a sign of protest against the DACA initiatives taken by Trump.

Trump Tweet: Responds to mom who lost son to opioids

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:01 AM PST

President Trump sent out a Twitter post Monday morning, after watching an interview on Fox & Friends with Sue Kruczek, whose son died of an opioid overdose.

Kruczek praised the president in the interview for addressing the opioid epidemic, and said she believes Trump is “going to pull us out of this.”

Trump tweeted in response, “Thank you to Sue Kruczek, who lost her wonderful and talented son Nick to the Opioid scourge, for your kind words while on @foxandfriends. We are fighting this terrible epidemic hard – Nick will not have died in vain!”

Below is the interview which prompted his tweet:

Trump releases $4.4 trillion budget proposal

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 09:47 AM PST

A budget proposal unveiled by the White House Monday reportedly includes cutting deficits by $3 trillion over the next 10 years, includes severe cuts to some federal agencies, $18 billion for a Mexican border wall, and increases funding for the Pentagon.

However, the Associated Press noted that Trump’s $4.4 trillion budget proposal “heralds an era of $1 trillion-plus federal deficits and — unlike the plan he released last year — never comes close to promising a balanced ledger even after 10 years.”

The AP further reported:

Tax revenue would plummet by $3.7 trillion over the 2018-27 decade relative to last year's "baseline" estimates, the budget projects. Trump is requesting a record $686 billion for the Pentagon, a 13 percent increase from the 2017 budget enacted last May.

The spending spree, along with last year's tax cuts, has the deficit moving sharply higher with Republicans in control of Washington. Trump's plan sees a 2019 deficit of $984 billion, though $1.2 trillion is more plausible after last week's budget pact and $90 billion worth of disaster aid is tacked on. That's more than double the 2019 deficit the administration promised last year.

All told, the new budget sees accumulating deficits of $7.2 trillion over the coming decade; Trump's plan last year projected a 10-year shortfall of $3.2 trillion.

"In one year of working together, we have laid the foundation for a new era of American greatness," Trump said in the budget message accompanying his spending document. "America is back to winning again. A great spirit of optimism continues to sweep across our nation."

The plan also reprises proposals from last year's Trump budget to curb crop insurance costs, cut student loan subsidies, reduce pension benefits for federal workers and cut food stamps, among other proposals.

Mick Mulvaney, the former tea party congressman who runs the White House budget office, said Sunday that Trump's new budget, if implemented, would tame the deficit over time.

"The budget does bend the trajectory down, it does move us back towards balance. It does get us away from trillion-dollar deficits," Mulvaney said on "Fox News Sunday."

"Just because this deal was signed does not mean the future is written in stone. We do have a chance still to change the trajectory. And that is what the budget will show tomorrow," he said.

Church celebrates transgender pastor with ‘renaming’ ceremony

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 09:04 AM PST

A Lutheran church in New Jersey celebrated the female-to-male transition of a pastor by conducting a renaming ceremony on Sunday.

St. Matthew Trinity Church in Hoboken has been overwhelmingly supportive of transgender Pastor Rose Beeson, 31, who was called “Peter” by Lutheran Bishop Tracie Bartholomew to mark the Beeson’s gender transition.

“I feel embraced by a cloud of saints,” Beeson told WATV.

Congregant Mark Singleton, 21, said that Sunday was “a wonderful day in the life of this radically inclusive community,” according to NJ.com.

“It’s an opportunity for us to live out our mission to accept everyone, not just talk the talk,” said Jen Meusel, 20, another congregant.

Bishop Bartholomew has also been supportive of Beeson’s transition.

“I support Pastor Beeson coming to the realization of who he really is,” Bartholomew said. “St. Matthew Trinity is a welcoming place and showing leadership to respond to gender identity and sexuality.”

According to Beeson, coming out as transgender in the summer of 2017 was “even more important” due to the recent election of President Donald Trump.

“Both I and this congregation thought it was even more important because of that; to be a bold voice that says, Christians also believe transgender people are good and created in the image of God,” Beeson said.

Beeson chose the name Peter purposefully, contending that, biblically, “Peter’s persistence resonated.”

Regarding the support of the church, Beeson said, “I am grateful to be in a congregation, in part to be a bold witness to God’s mercy and grace.”

Dems exposed for excessive taxpayer-funded car leases

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 08:44 AM PST

Expense reports published by the Clerk of the House of Representatives revealed that, despite being in the minority, House Democrats are currently outspending their Republican counterparts by a two-to-one margin on taxpayer-funded car leases.

Members of the House are offered the optional benefit of leasing a car at taxpayers’ expense — a perk that is not offered to senators.

In the third quarter of 2017, House Democrats’ spending on leases totaled $65,669 compared to $29,994 for Republicans. During that time, 19 Republicans expensed their leases, compared to 34 Democrats.

An analysis of one year of car leases expensed by House members compiled by The Washington Free Beacon showed that Democrats outspent Republicans by more than 2 to 1 in the last two quarters, although the gap was smaller during the first two quarters. Even so, Democrats outspent Republicans in each quarter and overall. The analysis did not account for vehicles utilized by the Speaker of the House or the Minority Leader.

According to the House of Representatives Press Gallery website, Republicans outnumbered Democrats by 45 in the House, as of January 16, 2018.

Regarding the issue, Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste, said, “Members are permitted to use their member’s representational allowance for any purpose that’s allowed under the House rules, which include leasing cars. However, there are many members that don’t spend all of their [allowance] money and give some of it back to the treasury. That would be very difficult to do for House Democrats based on the amount of money they’re spending on car leases.”

“Certainly, there shouldn’t be twice as much spent by one party as opposed to the other, especially when there are 45 fewer members of that party,” said Schatz.

In a 2008 report by The New York Times, Rep. Peter King, R.-N.Y., said the political pitfalls outweighed the benefits of leasing a car with taxpayer money.

“There are so many ethical issues people can raise,” said King, who stopped expensing his vehicle through the House in 2004. “I felt it just wasn’t worth the trouble or the aggravation. With the issues that people can raise against you, I just figured it didn’t make sense.”

House rules dictate that leased vehicles are not to be used as the personal vehicle of the House member, although minor exceptions apply based on the circumstance of the use.

Obamas unveil official portraits at Smithsonian (video)

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 08:37 AM PST

Monday morning, a ceremony was held at the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., where former President Obama and Michelle Obama unveiled their recently painted official portraits, which will join the “America’s Presidents” exhibition at the gallery.

Obama’s portrait has him sitting among a hedge of green leaves, already creating waves of comments and comparisons on social media, while others have observed that Michelle Obama’s portrait doesn’t look like her.

The Hill reported:

While artist Kehinde Wiley is typically known for portraying African-Americans as “famous figures in Western art,” his portrait of the 56-year-old 44th president “does not include an overt art historical reference,” according to the Smithsonian.

The flowers seen in the background of the former president’s portrait do have symbolic meanings. The chrysanthemums are the official flower of Chicago, where Obama began his political career. His childhood home of Hawaii is represented through jasmine, and African blue lilies serve as a nod to his late Kenyan-born father, Barack Obama Sr.

Baltimore-based artist Amy Sherald was selected to paint Michelle Obama's portrait. Sherald’s interpretation of the ex-first lady features gray skin tones, a hallmark of the majority of her paintings. Obama, 54, is seen wearing a dress by fashion designer Michelle Smith’s label, Milly.

Black Lives Matter leader DeRay Mckesson, who Obama had previously invited to the White House, tweeted his praise of the portrait.

Michelle Obama referenced race on multiple occasions in her speech at the presentation.

“I’m also thinking about all the…girls and girls of color, who in years ahead will come to this place…will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall of this great American institution.”

Trump administration proposes major change to International Space Station program (video)

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:47 AM PST

The Trump administration is proposing an end to federal funding of the International Space Station, allowing private industry to assume the approximately $1.1 billion in annual costs for the orbiting laboratory.

Following a transition period, the U.S. government would end direct support of the ISS after 2024, The Washington Post reported, citing NASA documents.

"The decision to end direct federal support for the ISS in 2025 does not imply that the platform itself will be deorbited at that time — it is possible that industry could continue to operate certain elements or capabilities of the ISS as part of a future commercial platform," the document read. "NASA will expand international and commercial partnerships over the next seven years in order to ensure continued human access to and presence in low Earth orbit."

In 2019, the Trump administration will request $150 million "to enable the development and maturation of commercial entities and capabilities which will ensure that commercial successors to the ISS — potentially including elements of the ISS — are operational when they are needed."

The ISS travels at approximately 17,500 miles per hour at an altitude of 248 miles. The U.S. has spent nearly $100 billion to build and operate the ISS — the largest single human structure ever to exist in space — so privatizing it is expected to draw harsh criticism.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R.-Texas, said last week that he hopes that reports about ending funding for the ISS "prove as unfounded as ‘Bigfoot.’"

"As a fiscal conservative, you know one of the dumbest things you can do is cancel programs after billions in investment when there is still serious usable life ahead," Cruz said.

According to Space.com, the International Space Station was constructed between 1998 and 2011 and has been visited by 230 people from 18 countries.

Customs hit with humongous inspection task before Valentine’s Day (video)

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:33 AM PST

The approach of Valentine’s Day has kept officials at Customs and Border Protection busy, with the agency expecting to process and inspect more than 1 billion imported stems of flowers prior to Wednesday.

The Department of Homeland Security is best known for their efforts to stop illegal immigration and the halt the importation of narcotics, but its Miami office facilitates most of the massive number of floral importation inspections that occur between Jan. 1 and Feb. 14 annually, the Washington Examiner reported.

According to DHS Secretary Elaine Duke, "People don't think of agriculture when they think of Customs and Border Protection — however, CBP agriculture specialists work diligently to protect our country from invasive species that have the potential to damage ecosystems and our economy.”

CBP officers at the Miami International Airport Agriculture Air Cargo Branch — which is tasked with inspecting 91 percent of all imported fresh-cut flowers — processed more than 954 million stems of flowers in 2017 and intercepted more than 1,000 plant pests. Approximately $138 billion annually in economic and environmental losses are attributable to exotic pests and foreign animal diseases.

“When those flowers make it to your home, we want it to be safe, not only for you but the environment and our country,” said Duke, who visited Florida last week to observe the inspection of the imported fresh-cut flowers. “I was proud to spend the day in Miami to see firsthand the important work they are doing to ensure even the tiniest of pests don't enter our country.”

Other CBP offices responsible for fresh-cut flower inspections include Los Angeles, which, in 2017, processed the second-highest amount of stems at 40 million; followed by Otay Mesa, Calif., at 25 million; and John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, which inspected 19 million stems of flowers.

During the 2017 Valentines’s Day season, a total of 1.063 billion stems of flowers were imported.

Columbia is the largest exporter of fresh-cut flowers to the United States, shipping 718 million stems during the six weeks leading up Valentine’s Day in 2017. Ecuador followed with 243 million, with Mexico in third place with 36 million.

Convenience store owner defrauds state using food stamp program

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:26 AM PST

A Southeast Portland convenience store owner who allowed recipients of the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to obtain cash instead of food has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison.

According to The Oregonian, Nasr Iskander, 39, who operated a minimart at a Shell gas station, paid customers 50 cents for every dollar of their welfare benefits. Iskander perpetrated the money-making scheme by adding a false charge for food, and giving the SNAP recipient half of the value of the transaction in cash.

A probable cause affidavit revealed that, Iskander, for example, might have falsely charged $100 worth of food to a SNAP recipient's benefits card, then gave that person $50 in cash. Iskander would then profit $50 from the transaction.

Iskander’s scheme lasted more than three years, during which time he swindled the state of Oregon out of $189,000 which was intended to purchase food for low-income residents of the state.

Following Iskander’s arrest, he claimed that the unusually high amount of food sales to SNAP recipients at his store were attributable to a large quantities of Egyptian cheese and pita bread that customers were purchasing.

Robert Crow, Iskander's defense attorney, declined to specifically address Iskander’s case, yet broadly claimed that the crime of a store owner cashing out from SNAP transactions is often a crime of desperation.

"I think a lot of the time, the store merchant is in dire straits: 'I've got bills to pay, my store is failing. I've got to do something,'" Crow said. "No one is getting rich off of this type of crime."

Iskander pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree aggravated theft, unlawfully obtaining public assistance and unlawfully using a food stamp benefit. In addition to being sentenced to 22 months in prison, Iskander must repay $189,000 to the state of Oregon.

A relative of Iskander’s, Karima Meshreki Hanna, 53, is jointly responsible for paying back the money because she worked at the store and was complicit in the scheme.

In 2017, Meshreki pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated first-degree theft and first-degree theft. As part of a plea agreement that included her cooperation in testifying against Iskander, she was sentenced to 90 days in jail followed by five years of probation.

Soros defends himself from ‘toxic criticism’ over anti-Brexit donation

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:12 AM PST

Billionaire investor and liberal political activist George Soros is defending himself against “toxic, personal criticism” for donating hundreds of thousands of pounds to a campaign to stop the United Kingdom from leaving the European Union.

Soros was lambasted following the revelation that, through one of his foundations, he made a donation of £400,000 ($550,000) to the Best for Britain campaign, an organization which opposes Brexit, CNBC reported.

In response to accusations that he was “undermining democracy,” Soros wrote in the Daily Mail on Sunday, “I consider Brexit a tragic mistake. Brexit is a lose-lose proposition both for Britain and for Europe. Politically, Europe without Britain will be weakened in its ability to defend and promote democratic values.”

“To make matters worse, the divorce process will preoccupy both Britain and Europe for years ahead, when they should be uniting to resist external enemies like Putin’s Russia and resolve the internal contradictions that made some people regard the EU as their enemy,” wrote Soros.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Soros and two other major donors are supporting a nationwide advertising campaign in the U.K. scheduled to launch later this month. The initiative is aimed at pushing the country to hold another referendum on Brexit and potentially keep Britain in the EU.

In 2017, Hungarian-born Soros suggested that the U.K.might not leave the EU if the bloc was successful in reforming itself while Brexit negotiations were taking place.

Redistricting group linked with Obama and Holder upping attacks on Republicans

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:58 AM PST

The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), an organization associated with former President Barack Obama and former attorney general Eric Holder, is seeking to raise $30 million to target and defeat Republicans.

Last year, NDRC, which is led by Holder, raised over $11 million.

Fox News reports the following:

“A redistricting group that is backed by former President Barack Obama and led by former attorney general Eric Holder raised more than $11 million last year and has set a new fundraising goal of $30 million to help their upcoming efforts to target Republicans in 12 states.

The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), a D.C.-based organization founded in 2016 that is chaired by Holder, is dedicated to “enacting a comprehensive, multi-cycle Democratic Party redistricting strategy.”

The group was formed in part due to Obama’s resentment towards the House Republican majority during a portion of his presidency and claims that gerrymandering, which both parties partake in, has led to “disastrous” policies.

“These gerrymandered districts have had disastrous policy consequences, leading to some of the most right-wing legislation in decades both in Congress and at the state level, including assaults on women’s health, suppressing the vote for people of color, failing to address climate change, and refusing to stand up to the epidemic of gun violence,” the group’s website states. “These policies don’t reflect the majority of voters, but because Republicans have rigged the system in their favor, voters are limited in their ability to do anything about it.””

Discovery of unexploded WWII bomb shuts down airport

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:42 AM PST

The London City Airport was temporarily closed Monday due to the uncovering of a WWII bomb.

The bomb was found in the River Thames, and authorities quarantined the zone for proper and safe removal.

The New York Post reports the following:

“LONDON — All flights to and from London's City Airport were cancelled on Monday after an unexploded World War Two bomb was found in the River Thames at George V Dock, the airport said.

Police said the ordnance was found during work at the airport on Sunday and they set up a 200-meter exclusion zone.

The Metropolitan Police said properties within the exclusion zone had been evacuated and a number of roads were cordoned off.

Robert Sinclair, CEO of London City Airport, the city's fifth biggest and the most central, said: "The airport is cooperating fully with the Met Police and Royal Navy and working hard to safely remove the device and resolve the situation as quickly as possible."”

Democratic candidate removed from state capitol (video)

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:34 AM PST

Attempting to make her voice heard, a Democratic primary candidate was forcibly removed from West Virginia’s capitol building by force.

The candidate, Lissa Lucas, began reading off a list of politicians (mostly House members) that took in hefty funding from gas and oil corporations.

Fox News reports the following:

“Lissa Lucas, a candidate in this year's Democratic primary for West Virginia delegates, was escorted out of the Charleston state house because she read a list of House members and how much they pocketed from oil and gas companies.

Newsweek reported that the meeting was about a proposal, the Co-Tenancy and Majority Protection Act, or H.B. 4268, that would allow these companies to drill on "minority mineral owners' land without their consent."

The report said that some landowners worry that the bill will allow these companies to drill on their properties for the minerals located below.

The West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association tweeted a poll that showed the majority of Republicans and Democrats in the state approve the bill.”

Olympics hit with cyber attack

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:21 AM PST

A cyber attack has been confirmed to have hit the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, according to official reports.

The attackers behind the hacking have not been identified, as an investigation is still underway by the Olympic organizers.

NBC reports the following:

“Pyeongchang Winter Olympics organizers confirmed on Sunday that the Games had come under a cyber attack during Friday's opening ceremony.

The internet and television services were affected by the hack. The organizers wouldn’t reveal the source of the attack, which they said, did not affect critical parts of their operations, Reuters reported.

"Maintaining secure operations is our purpose," said International Olympic Committee (IOC) spokesman Mark Adams, Reuters reported.

"We are not going to comment on the issue. It is one we are dealing with. We are making sure our systems are secure and they are secure."

Organizing committee spokeswoman Nancy Park said Friday night that the opening ceremony went as planned despite the suspected attack. “We just had some issue with our internal system,” she said. “

DACA FRUSTRATION: Trump campaign worker sends letter to DML

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 05:55 AM PST

Written by DML
I’ve been writing a book for nearly a year.  It’s called Fighting For Trump, and it tells the stories of Americans who fought for Trump to win the White House despite it coming at great personal expense.

I’ve interviewed people who lost their children and family members over their support of Trump. Some people lost their jobs, others got beat up physically.  Intertwined through the stories is my own personal journey as it connects to Trump.  I share stories never told before.

With DACA on the cusp of being reality, I am receiving a flood of emails from people throughout the country who feel manipulated and cheated by the man they fought so hard for.  Below is an email from one of Trump’s campaign workers.  It reflects the downside of Fighting For Trump.

DEAR DML,
Today I went to a rally for the top polling GOP (also pro-Trump) gubernatorial candidate in CA, Travis Allen, though he has almost no chance of advancing to the general election.

I met lots of the top CA Trump campaign people I hadn’t seen since last year. Sadly, all of them I spoke with today think Trump is doing a fantastic job, playing chess even. However, for every volunteer that thinks he can do no wrong, I have spoken with another volunteer who is furious with the job he’s doing.

The only thing that gave them pause about this immigration framework was mentioning the fact that chain migration would not end for 10-20 years. Why do we even need a deal at all? No deal is better than a bad one. Just enforce the law and let them go back on their own. I talked to about 100 Allen supporters today and almost all of them thought I was nuts to suggest the wall won’t get built even with funding.

I feel like I’m living in the movie Groundhog Day. 2016 was electrifying but right now I feel worse than when Obama was elected. At least then I knew what to expect. Trump will get away with far more than Obama or Hillary ever could and this scares the hell out of me.

After all we sacrificed to get him elected, it’s disgraceful how he’s turned his back on us.

Nobody did more than you Dennis.

Before I joined his campaign, I drove hundreds of miles through the snow to several of his rallies in a different state to speak with him about immigration, which I did every time. I would get no sleep and then stand for 8 hours in the cold to be sure I was first in the door.

At these events I met so many great people:

1) There was the former Underwater Demolition Team swimmer I saw every time who said Trump was the only person in the world he’d take a bullet for

2) There was the World War 2 vet who said he could finally die peacefully knowing that Trump would fix our problems

3) There was the woman who nearly lost her marriage of 30 years for supporting Trump

4) There was the guy who got his nose broken by protestors at a Trump rally

5) There was the guy who lost his job because his co-workers accused him of harassment after they found out he was a Trump supporter

6) There was the 86 year old on oxygen who spent most of his savings to get from CA to NV just to help Trump campaign for a week

And not to mention the many countless others who put themselves out there, faced ridicule, lost relationships, and donated endless time we could have spent with loved ones.

Trump owes it to us to keep his promises.

I think it’ll take a miracle for this amnesty not to pass but I’ll keep fighting to make sure it doesn’t.

— Ryan

DML: I Respond to Some of Your Emails

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 05:42 AM PST

Below, I respond to some of the emails you sent me over the past 24-hours.

To send me a message use the submit news button on this website.

FROM PAUL
No. I cannot afford Obamacare.  I thank you for this poll and hope you sent it to Trump.

DML: Thanks for taking the poll, Paul.

FROM PHILIP
Trump’s ego. Hey Dennis, the thought came to me to get Trumps attention by returning all the MAGA HATS AND CAMPAIGN PARAPHERNALIA!  Just mail all of it back to him personally! There’s no way he can ignore this!

DML: I love this idea.  DACA is not an option.  I will announce the your idea on The Truth today.

FROM JASON
I was broken hearted over the story you ran about the woman who cannot afford her trips to the hospital to be treated for dialysis.  I looked her up to offer a donation and found there was a GoFundMe page in her name set up by someone.  Thanks for running the story DML.  I hope Trump wakes up soon.

DML: It’s great that the woman in the story will get the funding she needs via charitable people, but is America going to become one big GoFundMe account?  The only reason why this woman is getting the money is because the news covered her story.  How many millions of Americans aren’t getting the camera placed in front of them, think of it in those terms and it’s super heartbreaking.

FROM LYDIA
DML, thank you for all your efforts and truth trying to cure the immigration insanity killing this country. Concerned American’s have made phone calls, written emails and letters, all to fall on deaf ears!! What recourse do We the People have now? I am one really pissed-off American and totally disgusted with our elected officials! I am done! This house loves DML, Lydia from New Jersey

DML: The last leg is one that I did not want to take, but one I’ve been walking on for weeks now. If you continue to show support for Trump, and if you continue to feed into his ego with terms like, “I love my president” and “I stand by Trump,” he will manipulate us to no end.  He must feel your “love” is turning to “anger” and eventually “hate.”  He is so concerned about being loved that he will walk away from the DACA plans and start listening again.  Remember, this is a guy who said he could shoot someone on 5th Ave and still have his supporters by his side.  He is playing you like a violin.  Fight fire with fire.  I know this guy and how he operates.  Trust me.  No more Mr. Nice Guy routine.  Get mad.

Illegal immigrant breaks spine attempting to cross border

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 05:32 AM PST

A female illegal immigrant’s attempt to cross the border from Mexico to the U.S. ended with her breaking her spine.

The 22-year-old Mexican citizen fell off a cliff during her illegal border crossing attempt, and the resulting fall left her with a broken spine and severe injuries.

Fox News reports the following:

“A 22-year-old Mexican woman plunged off a 20-foot cliff while trying to cross the border into the U.S. illegally, landing her in the hospital with a fractured spine, investigators said last week.

U.S. Border Patrol agents around 9 p.m. on Thursday spotted a man on surveillance footage walking near Highway 98 near Ocotillo in California and quickly made contact with him, according to a Customs and Border Protection news release.

The man, a 44-year-old Mexican national who was "waving his hands" to grab the attention of anyone passing by, told agents that his girlfriend had dropped off the cliff trying to cross the border illegally into the U.S.

The responding agents came to the rescue of the woman — a 22-year-old Mexican national — and immediately called emergency rescue authorities, who placed the woman on a gurney and air-lifted her from the scene, the agency stated.”

According to the press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “Agents took the man, a 44-year-old Mexican national, to the station for further processing. The woman, a 22-year-old Mexican national, will be at the hospital until she recovers. Later, agents will process her for removal from the country.”

War on drugs: OxyContin maker stops promoting opioids, cuts sales staff

Posted: 12 Feb 2018 05:30 AM PST

The drug epidemic in the U.S. is off the rails, with more people dying of drug overdoses each month.  Opioids were involved in more than 42,000 overdose deaths in 2016, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP said on Saturday that it has cut its sales force in half and will stop promoting opioids to physicians, following widespread criticism of the ways that drugmakers market addictive painkillers.

The drugmaker said it will inform doctors on Monday that its sales representatives will no longer visit physician offices to discuss its opioid products. It will now have about 200 sales representatives, Purdue said.
