Contending that it would meet all of the objectives put forth in President Donald Trump’s immigration “framework,” Sen. Tom Cotton, R.-Ark., lauded his immigration reform proposal in a Monday speech on the Senate floor.
The Secure and Succeed Act was introduced Monday by Cotton, along with six other Republican senators led by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R.-Iowa. During his speech, Cotton argued that the legislation was the only immigration reform plan that had a chance of becoming law during the Trump administration, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
“We've introduced legislation this week that transforms the president's four-pillar framework into an actual bill,” Cotton said. “And it's the one bill that can become a law. We have a plan, not to pass a bill but to pass a law.”
Cotton implored his colleagues to “solve this problem by passing a law” instead of “simply signal[ing] our virtue” by passing a bill.
According to Cotton, the Secure and Succeed Act addresses the four “pillars” of Trump’s “framework” by providing “legal status and ultimately citizenship for people who were brought here through no fault of their own as minors.” The bill also enacts measures to control immigration, including provisions for extensive border security, ending the visa lottery system and limiting chain migration.
Cotton called all other immigration reform proposals currently in the Senate “half-measures,” arguing that it was not responsible to legalize 1.8 million illegal aliens without implementing other measures to control immigration.
“It is not responsible, because if we give those people legal status, we'll have two negative side effects,” Cotton said. “First, we'll create more incentives, perverse incentives, to encourage illegal immigration with minor children to this country. That is dangerous. It is immoral — not to mention unwise from our national interest.”
“Second, if we give legal status to these 1.8 million people, we'll create a whole new pool of legal permanent residents and ultimately citizens who could naturalize their extended family, to include their parents, the very people who created the problem to begin with, undermining the rationale for the program to begin with,” Cotton said. “Remember that rationale is the children ought not pay for the sins of the parents, but surely parents can pay for the sins of the parents.”
Cotton claimed that the legislation does not force lawmakers to choose between pleasing voters and satisfying Trump, since Trump’s goals for immigration are largely supported by the electorate.
“A recent poll showed that 65 percent of Americans support this proposal,” Cotton said. “Two out of every three Americans support it. And they should, since after all, every part of this proposal is popular. Most of us have seen polls that suggest fewer than 20 percent of Americans want to see these people have to return to their country that, in many cases, they don't remember. At the same time, 72 percent want to end the practice of extended-family chain migration, and securing our southern border is equally popular.”

At a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday morning, FBI Director Christopher Wray was asked to respond to allegations of political bias by the media, by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).
“My experience, now six months in with the FBI, has validated all my prior experiences with the FBI, which is that they are the finest group of professionals and public servants I could hope to work for,” Wray said.
“Every day — many, many, many times a day — I’m confronted with unbelievable examples of integrity and professionalism and grit,” he added. "There’s 37,000 people in the FBI who do unbelievable things all around the world. And although you would never know it from watching the news, we actually have more than two investigations. And most of them do a lot to keep Americans safe.”

One of the ex-wives of former White House staff secretary Rob Porter has criticized the Trump administration regarding their handling of her allegations of domestic abuse.
In a Monday opinion editorial published in The Washington Post, Colbie Holderness took issue with the fact that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did not indicate whether President Donald Trump believed the allegations of abuse made by her and Porter’s other ex-wife, Jennie Willoughby, and wrote that she expected better from a woman.
In a Sunday appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” White House counsel Kellyanne Conway addressed rumors that Porter was now dating Communications Director Hope Hicks. Conway said that she does not fear for Hicks in that relationship because Hicks is “strong.”
Holderness contended that Conway’s statement implied that “those who have been in abusive relationships are not strong. I beg to differ. Recognizing and surviving in an abusive relationship takes strength. The abuse can be terrifying, life-threatening and almost constant.”
According to Holderness, “living in constant fear of Rob's anger and being subjected to his degrading tirades for years chipped away at my independence and sense of self-worth.”
Holderness insisted that people who are abused must speak out and not remain silent regarding the issue.
On Monday, the White House defended Trump’s failure to publicly acknowledge the women who made allegations of abuse against Porter.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the “president and the entire administration take domestic violence very seriously and believe all allegations need to be investigated thoroughly. Above all, the president supports victims of domestic violence and believes everyone should be treated fairly and with due process.”
In tweets and public remarks, Trump has not mentioned Porter’s ex-wives who allege that they were physically and emotionally abused by Porter. Porter has denied the accusations.
“People’s lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation,” Trump wrote in a Saturday tweet. “Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?”
Sanders insisted that her statement came directly from Trump.
“It’s my job to speak on the behalf of the president. I spoke to him, and he relayed that message directly to me, and I’m relaying it directly to you,” Sanders said, also defending remarks in which he wished Porter well.
During her Sunday appearance on CNN, Conway also addressed Trump’s tweet, saying, “What the president is pointing out is that, all the while — and Sarah said this from the podium too, read a statement from Rob Porter — that he is denying these ‘vile allegations,’ but that he doesn’t want to further engage in this orchestrated public smear campaign.”
According to The New York Times, Trump is privately angry at Porter and blames him for creating a crisis for the administration. During a phone call with a confidant, Trump reportedly said that Porter was “bad garbage.”

Former FBI Director James Comey appears to have attended a previously undisclosed, secret, high-level meeting with former President Obama just two weeks prior to Trump’s inauguration, which he had not disclosed.
According to a recently discovered email which former president Obama’s security adviser, Susan Rice, sent to herself on President Trump’s inauguration day, a meeting occurred on January 5, 2017 that included Obama, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, then-Vice President Joe Biden and Rice.
The Daily Caller reported:
The topic of the meeting was potential Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
By failing to inform the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about the meeting in his June 8, 2017, testimony, Comey may have deliberately and intentionally misled Congress about his interactions with the former president, especially a meeting so close to Trump entering the White House.
"President Obama had a brief follow-on conversation with FBI Director Comey," Rice wrote in an email written the day before the inauguration.
The National Archives gave Grassley and Graham "classified and unclassified emails" about the meeting.
Previously, Comey contended he only met with the Obama twice, once in 2015 and another "to say goodbye in late 2016," according the former FBI director's June 8, 2017, testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
"I spoke alone with President Obama twice in person (and never on the phone) – once in 2015 to discuss law enforcement policy issues and a second time, briefly, for him to say goodbye in late 2016," Comey's opening statement read.
Comey never mentioned that January 5th meeting which Rice spoke of in her email.

He hasn’t even been invited yet, but gay Olympic skater Adam Rippon has declared he would boycott any TEAM USA visit to the Trump White House.
Last weekend, Rippon and fellow gay Olympian Gus Kenworthy posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Eat your heart out, Pence.”
The Daily Mail reported:
Skating sensation Adam Rippon put himself on a collision course with the White House on Monday after declaring he will snub President Trump's White House party for Team USA.
The 28-year-old, who won a team bronze medal at his first Olympics on Sunday night, told Daily Mail.com that he would give the traditional gathering a miss in protest against what he sees as homophobia among the country's leadership.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com the gay athlete, who was trending worldwide as number one on Twitter after his routine, said his decision not to go would be ' to support my community.'
He added: ‘No. I have no desire to go to the White House. But I would like to do something to help my community.’
'I have kind of spoken out a lot and I'd I like to do something positive and not just stay at home.'
He said this would probably mean staging an event of his own to highlight his campaign against homophobia and for gay rights.

Following the revelation that he was convicted in 2001 of having sexual intercourse with a four-year-old girl, a Pennsylvania fire chief has resigned from his position.
Roger Gilbert Jr., 43, resigned from his post as fire chief of the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department, as well as from his postion as a fireman. Gilbert told YourErie.com that he has been a volunteer fireman in Spartansburg for 25 years, starting as a junior fireman. Prior to being elected fire chief a year ago, he served as the assistant chief.
In 2001, Gilbert pleaded no contest to charges of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl and completed a five-to-10-year sentence for “involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.”
Since his release, Gilbert said he has had the full support of the Spartansburg Fire Department and the community of approximately 300 residents. Following recent widespread reports of his criminal record, Gilbert and his family began to receive death threats.
“My family and our community are being attacked,” Gilbert said. “I didn’t want that to continue. All I have done for 18 years is good things. But outsiders are tearing us up. I felt the best thing to do was back away.”
Regarding his situation, Gilbert said, “It seems you can never do wrong and do good again.”
Upon learning about Gilbert’s background, many demanded that Gilbert be removed from his position. However, Spartansburg mayor, Ann Louise Wagner, supported Gilbert, noting that his history was known in the department, and that the position is unpaid.
“I support the fire department and their decision to have him as chief,” Wagner said. “The firemen have always elected their own officers and that’s how it’s always been done. We don’t question their decisions.”
The mother of Gilbert’s victim does not believe that he should be serving in a capacity which enables him to interact with children, although Gilbert vowed that he has changed since he committed the crime in 2000.
“That was 20 years ago,” he said. “You know, the story you are telling kids is once you make mistake, you will be punished for the rest of your life. I’ve changed my life for the better. Every day I get up and try to do good.”
According to state police, communities are allowed to decide whether to allow sex offenders who have completed their sentences to serve in an elected office at the local level.

After initially being ruled as an accidental drug overdose, the death of a male escort in the West Hollywood home of a well-known Democratic Party donor last year is now being investigated as a possible homicide.
On July 27, Gemmel Moore, 26, was discovered by police inside the apartment of Ed Buck, 63, a high-profile Democratic contributor. Buck has donated more than $500,000 to Democrats including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey and other state and local organizations in California.
Moore’s death was ruled as an accidental methamphetamine overdose by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office. The family and friends of Moore disputed the finding, resulting in an Aug. 14 announcement by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office Homicide Bureau that they would investigate the case for criminal activity.
According to Fox News, investigators want to conclude the investigation, but they have had difficulty getting certain witnesses to schedule interviews.
"We should have all the information, so we can make a good evaluation of everything that transpired to see if there's any criminal culpability," said Lt. Joe Mendoza, a spokesman for the homicide bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.
Mendoza noted that investigators have interviewed "numerous" witnesses regarding their interactions with Buck, but additional interviews with other witnesses are needed.
"We don't want to move forward with anything else without every single piece of information," said Mendoza, who noted that investigators have coordinated with the district attorney's office to grant immunity to witnesses for unrelated minor crimes, allowing them to speak freely regarding Buck. "We're just in a holding pattern until we can get those people interviewed."
Buck’s attorney, Seymour Amster, claims that Buck is innocent of wrongdoing.
“There's nothing there. As we always stated, this was an accidental overdose that Ed Buck had nothing to do with and it's a tragedy,” Amster said. “The coroner has not changed his opinion from an accidental death. Until that happens, and that's not going to happen, we're done.”
Once the homicide investigation concludes, detectives will determine whether the findings should be submitted to a district attorney or brought before a grand jury. "I think a detective would probably present it to a DA, but a grand jury is not out of play either," said Mendoza.
According to the July 31 coroner's report, detectives found drugs and an array of paraphernalia in Buck's apartment.
Of interest in the investigation is a journal apparently kept by Moore which was discovered among his belongings. In it, Moore wrote about his drug use and his interactions with Buck.
"I honestly don't know what to do. I've become addicted to drugs and the worst one at that," read a December entry. "Ed Buck is the one to thank. He gave me my first injection of crystal meth it was very painful, but after all the troubles, I became addicted …”
The final entry in Moore's journal, dated Dec. 3, 2016, read, “If it didn't hurt so bad, I'd kill myself, but I'll let Ed Buck do it for now.”
Jasmyne Cannick, an advocate for Moore's family, claims that a number of gay black men have admitted that Buck invited them to his house, then paid them several hundred dollars to take drugs.
Amster contended that Moore and Buck were "friends" and that Buck was "legitimately trying to help" Moore.
"These are merely accusations,” Amster said. “This situation has turned into an attack on Mr. Buck's personal life."

Former White House aid Omarosa Manigault-Newman, who served as the communications director for the Office of Public Liaison until her forced resignation in December, is still dishing out “dirt” as her role on the reality TV program "Celebrity Big Brother” continues.
Last week, Omarosa went after President Trump, and said she was “haunted” by his tweets. This week, her focus turned to Vice President Mike Pence.
"Can I just say this, as bad as you all think Trump is, you would be worried about Pence. Everybody that's wishing for impeachment might want to reconsider their lives. You would be begging for days of Trump back if Pence became president. That’s all I’m saying,” she said.
“He's extreme. I'm Christian, I love Jesus. But he thinks Jesus tells him to say things, and I'm like, 'Jesus didn't say that.' Scary,” she added dramatically.

Rob Porter, the former staff secretary to the White House, is claiming that his allegations of domestic abuse are being overly exaggerated.
He reportedly told his staffers, for example, that his ex-wife’s black eye was a total accident.
The Daily Mail reports the following:
“Former White House staff secretary Rob Porter reportedly told senior staffers that his ex-wife’s black eye was an ‘accident’ as he tried to downplay the allegations of domestic abuse leveled against him.
Porter resigned from his position last Wednesday after both of his ex-wives – Jennie Willoughby and Colbie Holderness – came forward and claimed that they had been abused by him during their marriages.
Soon after DailyMail.com published photos of Holderness with a black eye that she claims was a result of Porter punching her in the face, the White House staffer apparently told his colleagues it was an ‘accident’.
Sources told ABC News that Porter said the couple had been arguing over a vase in their hotel room on a holiday in Italy in the early 2000s early on in their marriage when Holderness fell.”

A French sociologist asserts that as many as 30 percent of girls in the heavily migrant-populated suburbs of Paris face the threat of female genital mutilation.
Isabelle Gillette-Faye, director of the Group for the Abolition of Sexual Mutilation, has dire concerns regarding the prevalence of FGM in the areas of Seine-Saint-Denis and Île-de-France — regions known as no-go zones.
In an interview with Île-de-France’s official website, Gillette-Faye said that the practice of FGM in the area often involved much older girls than in other regions of the world where it occurs.
"In general, they undergo mutilations of type 2, that is to say, the removal of the clitoris and labia minora," Gillette-Faye said, noting that many victims are forced to go overseas for the procedure, often before they are forced into marriages.
Gillette-Faye and her group are working to combat the practice of FGM by training medical practitioners and social workers to identify cases and collaborate with authorities.
"We will be relieved when we have left circumcision two to three generations behind us. Families living in France are often resistant, as social and traditional pressures are very strong, and it is often the family remaining in the [original] country that decides."
FGM has garnered more attention in Western countries in recent years due to the burgeoning number of cases and the efforts to fight the practice. In the United Kingdom in 2017, one case was discovered or treated every hour, Breitbart reported.
“FGM Awareness Day” was observed earlier this month in an effort to highlight the problem.
In Ireland, there remains a challenge in the fight, where doctor and Muslim scholar Ali Selim recently endorsed a form of FGM, saying, "I'm not an advocate of female genital mutilation but I am an advocate of female circumcision."

Michael Cohen is known for his close relationship to President Trump due to his role as the commander-in-chief’s personal lawyer.
According to multiple reports, Cohen will be scribing a book about Trump’s rise to the White House. The title of the book has also been revealed.
The Hill reports the following:
“President Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, is reportedly shopping around a book he is writing about his time with Trump.
The Daily Beast reported the book will likely be called: “Trump Revolution: From The Tower to The White House, Understanding Donald J. Trump.”
"No issue was too big, too sticky or too oddball for me to tackle," Cohen says in his proposal, according to the news outlet.
"I saw it all, handled it all. And still do."
In the proposal, Cohen reportedly refers to himself as the “family fix-it guy.” He talks about his long relationship with the president and how this gives him a unique perspective.”

President Trump took to Twitter to share his thoughts on his proposed infrastructure plan, which he claims is favored by everyone minus the Democrats.
Trump further specifically notes that roads, airports and bridges need to be addressed in the plan following years of being ignored.
He writes: “Our infrastructure plan has been put forward and has received great reviews by everyone except, of course, the Democrats. After many years we have taken care of our Military, now we have to fix our roads, bridges, tunnels, airports and more. Bipartisan, make deal Dems?”

President Trump announced via Twitter Tuesday morning that Republicans, Democrats and himself are ready to finalize a deal on DACA that will benefit those protected under the legislation.
Trump writes: “Negotiations on DACA have begun. Republicans want to make a deal and Democrats say they want to make a deal. Wouldn't it be great if we could finally, after so many years, solve the DACA puzzle. This will be our last chance, there will never be another opportunity! March 5th.”
The decision on Trump’s part to aid DACA has left many supporters feeling disappointed and disenfranchised. DML News CEO Dennis Michael Lynch issued his own response to Trump’s announcement.
DML writes in a tweet: “I’m thrilled about u lying to voters about “no amnesty.” I’m excited to give away US citizenship in exchange for things that’ll never happen (see Reagan). Considering u failed to get Mexico to pay for wall, & u failed to kill Obamare, can u get Mexico to pay for my $1700 premium?”

DML: “Money cannot buy happiness.” The phrase is often debated. Although the stock market is up, it was up for the last 5 years of the Obama administration. Although unemployment is down, it was heading downwards since 2011. I have never seen the country more divided than it is today. I blame it mostly on the media, but lets not pretend “other people” don’t have a hand in playing the “it’s them against us” narrative. I find the country to be upside down, still. I’d rather have less more and bigger smiles.
DML: I have to laugh because after weeks of not getting me to change my tune, the haters have gone from calling me nasty names and making false claims about me, to now referring to me as a “snowflake.” The amazing thing is if any one of these people was to stand in front of me, I am betting all the money in Trump’s pocket that not one would have the spine to say it to my face. That said, I was once told that the person screaming and cursing the most is the one who is losing the argument. Each party, all areas of the country have its share of “nuts” and “fanatics.” Unfortunately, it appears we’ve attracted our share in Team DML. These are the same people who cried when Obama granted DACA, and they protested when he spent money like it grew on trees, and they called him treasonous when Obamacare was signed into law. These are the same people who are now justifying citizenship for millions of illegals in exchange for nothing that will come to fruition (based on historical data and events), they say nothing about the crazy GOP spending led by Trump, and they seem not to care about Obamacare showing no signs of being repealed and replaced. They are solely focused on “the memos” and “fake news.” My mother-in-law once told me not to hold people accountable for what they are incapable of doing. These haters are incapable of making an intelligent argument. Therefore, my suggestion to you is to keep in mind that these people who attack are: (a) keyboard tough guys / gals who possess little spine, (b) probably hiring illegals behind closed doors, (c) likely to have backgrounds that highlight a lack of credibility, and (d) desperately bored out of their skulls. I suggest you do what I do at this point…. ignore them.
DML: It would be so much easier to pretend amnesty is great, Obamacare is cheap, and Trump is a noble leader. But I won’t. Thanks!
DML: Good for you. The president touted his amnesty plan again this morning. What a liar he is. To think he labeled Cruz “lying Ted”. Below are some of the photos people have sent me…

Over 500 illegal immigrants were halted by Mexican authorities during their attempts to cross over the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to reports, the immigrants hailed from South and Central American countries and were all caught in the course of six operations.
Yahoo News reports the following:
“Mexico City (AFP) – Mexican authorities detained more than 500 undocumented migrants over the weekend, mostly Central Americans trying to reach the United States, many of them risking their lives, officials said.
Many of the migrants, who were detained in six different operations, were being trafficked by smugglers in unventilated trucks with no food or water.
More than 200 others were found crammed into six “safe houses” used by criminal gangs in the state of Tamaulipas, which borders the United States.
They had paid their traffickers up to $4,000. More than 100 of the migrants in that group were minors.
The detentions come as immigration across the southern US border is at the center of a political firestorm in Washington.”
