LONDON: Saudi households will be SR239-a-month ($63.64) better off on average following the introduction of recently announced government grants, a report found.
It represents a 1.5 percent increase in average household income, Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoAML) said.
"The combination of royal grants and household allowance disbursements more than fully shelter Saudi households from the cost of fiscal reform costs," said chief regional economist Jean-Michel Saliba in the report. "Further out, Saudization efforts and targeted stimulus should support consumption."

Rouhani said conservative officials should not block candidates they dislike from future elections, and that there should be greater trust in the people, including the use of referenda on key issues.

NEW YORK: Stock investors on Monday will be seeking to divine if the deepest weekly slide since January 2016 will continue or if the market will turn the corner after one of the most volatile five days in years.
Equal parts science, art and luck may be needed to pick a bottom in the S&P 500. While it ended last week on an up note, the index was caught in its first correction in two years, after a 7 percent rally this year that culminated with a record high on Jan. 26, following a 19 percent 2017 gain.

BEIRUT/WASHINGTON: The war in Syria threatened to enter a new and dangerously unpredictable phase on Sunday as the US and Israel issued stark warnings over Iran's role.
Israeli forces will press ahead with Syria operations despite the loss of an F-16 warplane shot down on Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Israel carried out major air raids in Syria on Saturday against what it described as Iranian targets.
"We inflicted a heavy blow to Iranian and Syrian forces," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Israeli Cabinet on Sunday.

LONDON: Russia's chances of reclaiming the 'investment grade' credit rating it lost three years ago are rising, potentially causing headaches for index-tracking bond buyers who will be wary of US sanctions.
A move by Moody's late last month means that both it and S&P Global now have Russia's foreign currency debt rating just one step away from the coveted upper bracket.

PYEONGCHANG: For a major new Olympics sponsor, Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp. is oddly invisible at the Pyeongchang winter Games.
Unlike other top global sponsors such as Coca-Cola and Visa, Toyota is nowhere to be seen, having sent only a few dozen representatives to South Korea for the event.
Its cars are missing from Olympic fleets, the logo is nowhere to be seen and only visiting Toyota officials from other countries such as the US, whose teams it separately sponsors, can wear Olympic rings on their clothing here.

"I suggested they study my proposal and I am waiting for their reply," Luaybi said.
