Restaurant employees work hard to earn their tips. When they don't receive the gratuity on which they depend to make ends meet, they're understandably upset.
When one Outback Steakhouse employee was given $0 in tips on a $735 order for a church, she took to social media to share her dismay and disappointment.
And she was fired for it. As you'll see in the video below, she says that she wouldn't change a thing.
Outback Steakhouse wisely offers delivery services in some areas -- in these days of Amazon Prime and soon-to-be days of delivery via drone and autonomous vehicle, your restaurant has to be exceptional if you expect for people to physically leave their homes to eat your food.
However, delivery service at one Palm Beach County, Florida Outback was delayed, and so a local megachurch, Christ Fellowship, sent a volunteer to pick up the order directly from Outback.
The order for 25 people came out to $735.
The volunteer paid for the order and left.
There was just one problem: the volunteer didn't leave a tip. Annoying on small orders. On a massive order that took a while to put together, that kind of slight can leave wait staff financially devastated for the day.
One of the employees who worked on the order was Tamalyn Yoder.
Speaking to the Palm Beach Post, she explained why this is a problem, even though there was no table service:
"We take the order over the phone, we put the order together, take payment and then take order to the car. It’s a lot of work just as much as serving."
As a result, she says that she made only $18 in tips from other orders -- as so much of her time was occupied preparing the large order.
It's important to remember that, though the minimum wage is not really a living wage, many restaurant employees are paid even less.
As a number of servers have done since the advent of social media, Tamalyn took to the internet to express her disappointment that such a large order would come with no tip.
A large part of her intention was to raise awareness -- some people may believe that tipping isn't necessary because they aren't being waited upon at a table. It's easy to forget how much goes on behind the scenes.
She was also just upset, folks. As anyone would be if their work went uncompensated.
Unfortunately, Outback responded by firing her, citing its policy of firing waiters who do literally exactly what she did -- complaining about customers on social media.
Now, Tamalyn is speaking to the media about why she felt that this was worth being fired.
"When I brought it out and put it in the car and received the payment, there was no gratuity. I got upset."
She's very matter-of-fact about events.
"I posted a post on Facebook about the church not leaving a gratuity tip."
She reminds everyone of the importance of tipping.
"We live off of tips. If we don’t have that then we have nothing."
A lot of people aren't sure how to tip when it's not in a restaurant. In a restaurant, 20% makes sense as a bare minimum, sure, but if you're picking up, she recommends:
"Coming in to eat or takeout, you should automatically be wanting to tip 15%. From there you either go up or you go down, based on service."
She doesn't quite agree with Outback's policy.
"I feel that we should be allowed to say something especially to big parties that don’t leave anything...they pay the exact amount."
Some places put an automatic gratuity on large orders; perhaps Outback should implement that. They may even learn from this example.
Tamalyn says that what has transpired was worth it.
"I probably would still do it the same way. I wouldn’t change anything."
She is currently searching for a new job. But she mentions that she doesn't harbor any ill will towards Christ Fellowship.
"The church did reach out to me, they are trying to rectify the whole thing. And I thank them."
Christ Fellowship has clarified that the volunteer was unaware that the church always tips, as it was a last-minute arrangement.

Daryle Singletary, a country musician responsible for many popular hits in the 1990s, was found dead on Monday morning at his home near Nashville.
He was 46 years old.
According to the singer's publicist, Singletary's passing was unexpected and sudden.
"The cause of death is pending," his rep told ABC News in a statement, adding:
"The family asks for your thoughts and prayers during this time."
Singletary is probably best known to this day for his impressive run of of top-five country tracks in the mid-1990s, including such singles as:
His greatest successes may have taken place years ago, but Singletary remained a frequent performer up until his death.
He even took to the stage just this past Friday in Alabama, and did not show any signs of illness or any health difficulties at the time.
In response to this unexpected death, many singers and groups from within the country music world took to social media in order to pay their respects.
"Heartbroken," LOCASH shared on Instagram, along with a photo of Singletary, adding online:
"Sad Day ... We lost our Brother ... One of the Greatest Voices in Country Music, A true Legend but an even better Friend, Huntin' Buddy, Husband, Father & Man. Prayin' for him and his family."
Craig Campell, meanwhile, posted the following image and wrote the following words:
"Sad day...the greatest country voice of my time is now singing in Heaven's band. Gonna miss you @Darylesing ! Now show them how a good ol country shuffle is supposed to sound!"
There was also this from country legend Travis Tritt:
"I'm shocked and saddened to hear that Daryle Singletary has passed away.
"He was a true country voice and his talent will be sorely missed. Praying for Daryle's friends and family."
SiriusXm's The Highway even got in on the mournful act, Tweeting:
"This is SiriusXM Music News with breaking news. It has been confirmed to us that Daryle Singletary has died at the age of 46. More information coming soon."
Singletary is survived by his wife Holly, their two sons and their two daughters.
As of this posting, funeral arrangements were pending.
May Daryle Singletary rest in peace.

Rob Kardashian is back, folks.
After several months of self-imposed exile, Rob has reappeared on social media, and it seems things are going as well as can be expected, considering what a train wreck Rob's life was last we checked.
To recap: following a seriously ugly breakup, Rob posted nude photos of Blac Chyna on Instagram.
When that got shut down for very good reason, he moved his revenge porn tirade to Twitter.
The only reason Rob isn't commiserating with Harvey Weinstein right now on the island of predatory pervs is that his revolting actions were carried out before the start of the #MeToo movement.
Yes, Rob lucked out again, proving once and for all that he's the living embodiment of privilege.
We'd say he still has a career, but Rob never really had a career to begin with (unless you count those three weeks where he tried to be a sock mogul, which we most certainly do not).
Anyway, Rob is doing something of a tentative apology tour these days, dipping his toe back into the social media celebrity pond and seeing what sort of response he gets.
Amazingly, he's being greeted with open arms because, well ... see our earlier comment about "the living embodiment of privilege."
Last week, Rob posted a troubling tweet, and while many celebs would have been encouraged to seek help, he was encouraged to share the details of his troubles with his millions of followers.
This week, Rob is playing the cute kid card with a photo of his daughter, Dream, hugging her cousin North.
Now bear in mind, we're not dismissing the power of the cute kid card.
Dream and North are, in fact, adorable children, and thus, the pics that Rob posted received the expected response.
"Awwww GOOD Morning cousin love North & Dream," he captioned the photo.
We're not saying this a calculated move on Rob's part as he attempts to slowly work his way back into the spotlight, but ...
... Actually, we sort of are saying that.
The man is Kris Jenner's son.
He doesn't move his bowels without thinking about how it might affect his brand.
But anyway - cute kids in that family. Now keep 'em away from Rob, Kris, and all forms of social media.

They may no longer star as brothers on the small screen...
... but Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley proved over the weekend that they are brothers in life.
Very, very, very handsome brothers in real life, we must add.
On Saturday, Wesley uploaded a photograph with his former co-star on Instagram Story, giving followers a look at him and Somerhalder hanging out during The Vampire Diaries and The Originals Official Convention in Nashville.
As you can see above, the sultry snapshot was accompanied by a single word:
For eight seasons, Wesley portrayed Stefan Salvatore and Somerhalder portrayed Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries.
They were centuries-old blood suckers who loved the same women (Nina Dobrev's Elena... and also Nina Dobrev's Katherine) at various points in their long lives - but whose real love was for each other.
Indeed, the most interesting and sentimental relationship through the show's impressive run on The CW took place between these siblings.
Away from the camera, Wesley, Somerhalder and their fellow cast members were known and respected for their enthusiastic fan interactions.
They were major attractions at Comic-Con every year the series attended that massive event in San Diego and they were both very engaging on social media.
Somerhalder, in particular, has never missed an opportunity to thank his supporters for sticking by him and the show, which came to an end in March of 2017.
For this reason, viewers went a bit overboard in their reactions to seeing Wesley and Somerhalder reunited in the photo above.
Case in point, from one Instagram users:
HOLY CRAP I CANT BREATHE!!! DAMON!!! STEFAN!!!!! IAN!!! PAUL!!!! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME!?!!? HELP IM DYING!!! MY POOR HEART ACHES!!!!
Elsewhere, here were a few sample reactions on Twitter:
Since going their separate ways professionally, neither Wesley nor Somerhalder has starred in anything of note.
The former directed an episode of Shadowhunters last year, however, while the latter just finished filming a movie titled Time Framed.
Ian has also been quite busy in his personal life... considering he welcomed his first child into the world last July!!!!
How exciting, right?!?
Somerhalder and wife Nikki Reed are parents to a daughter named Bodhi.
We don't know much else about her because her famous parents have chosen to keep the little one out of the spotlight, a decision we very much respect.
But if Ian is interested in making news in a different fashion any time soon, we have five words for him:
Paul. Wesley. Buddy. Cop. Movie.
Think about it, fellas.

If you keep up with all the latest Teen Mom gossip, then you know that things have been rough for our favorite middle school sweethearts.
And they've been tough for a good while now, too.
In November, Catelynn Lowell revealed that she'd been suffering from suicidal thoughts, and that she'd be checking into a treatment center in Arizona to get help.
She checked herself out early before Christmas because she reportedly felt guilty for being away from her family for the holidays, but it didn't last -- she returned pretty much immediately after leaving.
In late December, she finished her treatment and returned home, but just a few weeks later, she returned for another six weeks of therapy.
She's been there about four weeks so far, and there's been no definite word on when she'll come home this time.
It's absolutely heartbreaking to know that Catelynn is going through such a hard time, but as the weeks go on, it's becoming clear that Tyler doesn't exactly have it easy himself.
He's been staying in Michigan with their daughter, Nova, and running their clothing business on his own while Catelynn gets the help she needs, and it really seems like he's running himself ragged.
Last month, he tweeted "I just don't know if I can do this anymore," and the next day he revealed that he was getting therapy, too.
"I'm doing a little self care today, you know what I mean?" he explained. "Sometimes you gotta put yourself ahead of other people sometimes in life."
Since then, he's posted a few videos that show how much he's struggling, including one in which he openly cried about his situation.
And sadly, it looks like things still aren't getting better for him.
In a series of videos he shared on Snapchat over the weekend, Tyler gave a little rundown of his plans for the day, and it was obvious that he was struggling.
"So I literally got to get all these Tierra Reign orders in the poly mailers and then I got to take them to the post office before they close," he said.
"And then I have to finish this laundry and then I have to pack our bags for a week -- my bag and Nova's bag."
He has to pack the bags, he says, because "I'm off to Arizona for Cate's family week program at her facility."
"It's going to be a super, super long emotional week and a pretty long day," he explained. "Yippee."
He added that "I literally have all those things to do and I just don't have the energy for it but I have to do it because if I don't do it, it won't get done, like usual. What's new?"
It sounds like Tyler is really and truly exhausted from dealing with all of this, right?
He's had this certain tone lately that makes it seem like he's a little bit resentful of Catelynn for being away for so long, which is understandable, but also pretty upsetting.
Unfortunately for Tyler, things may be upsetting for the foreseeable future.
According to a report from Us Weekly, Catelynn is set to leave rehab at the end of this month, but the reunion special for this season of Teen Mom OG is filming in the first weekend of March.
"The reunions are always extremely emotional and grueling," the source says, and for that reason, Catelynn might skip it altogether.
"Catelynn's appearance is still very much up in the air and will be determined much closer to the date, even as late as the day before," the source explains.
"Her treatment team will decide if she should go."
If she didn't end up going, that's definitely fair, and it makes total sense -- she's obviously going through a lot right now, and she doesn't need to risk her wellbeing for some reality show nonsense.
But if she doesn't, we'd have to imagine that Tyler will have to show up in her place so that the Baltierras are represented.
And really, he has enough on his plate already.

Who is Kylie Jenner to you? A reality star from a famous family? A wealthy makeup mogul? A new mother who just gave birth at the beginning of the month?
To one trans woman, Kylie is an inspiration.
Kyleigh Potts is a model who's spent $75,000 on 40 different procedures to look more and more like Kylie Jenner.
Kyleigh Potts tells The Daily Mail that she started using lip fillers a few years ago. Since then, she's had 40 different procedures in order to attain her current look.
"I have spent the last four years perfecting my transition into the beautiful woman I always knew I was."
Though she's been intrigued by plastic surgery since well before her transition, Kyleigh points to the young reality star as her real inspiration.
"Kylie Jenner has always been my ultimate goal and inspiration, I feel like I have always emulated her and like her I didn't start out beautiful, I built myself beautiful."
You have to remember that, for the first few years of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kylie faced nearly as many insults about her appearance as Khloe did.
And then Kylie got hot. More than that, she redesigned her body to look how she wanted it to. That really struck a chord with Kyleigh.
"When I saw her come into herself and transform from the ugly duckling to the b---h everybody wants to be - every girl wants to be her, and every guy wants to sleep with her."
Well, everybody wants her bank account, anyway. Not sure that everybody wants to quantum leap into a 20-year-old mother.
"I resonated with that, I always thought I was unattractive, ugly and never enough through the trauma of being bullied that I found confidence through altering myself."
Kyleigh, who chose to disclose that her deadname was Kyle Leigh -- which is just incredibly serendipitous -- talks about how she began undergoing procedures.
"I turned to dermal fillers in attempts to make everything better, I spent my first two years doing that extensively to the point where my lips were huge."
Her lips are still pretty huge, actually.
"My facial structure is very similar to hers, when I had my recent surgeries they asked me to bring in pictures of my inspiration and desired look, every image was of Kylie Jenner."
Go big or go home. And, speaking of going big. ...
"I found Dolly Parton's plastic surgeon, because I wanted the biggest breasts possible, to feminise my face by making my chin more rounded and alter my nose to look like Kylie's."
And she talks about exactly how far she went with her breasts.
"'I went from no breasts at all, only developing small tissue from hormones, to 650cc implants that have given me 34DDD breasts."
She says that the link between herself and Kylie has increased over the years.
"People tell me I look like Kylie Jenner a lot, it was always a joke among my friends and I refer to myself as King Kyleigh, I even have it tattooed on my bicep."
We don't know that we'd say that she actually looks like Kylie most of the time, but we're glad that Kyleigh's out there living her best life.
She is accustomed to getting a reaction in public, however.
"Whenever I go grocery shopping everyone's heads turn that happens no matter what, I don't pay a lot of attention to it - I'm used to walking into somewhere and having the whole room stare at me."
Maybe we'll one day live in a world where people aren't so hung up on the appearances of strangers.
Though it's no one's business, Kyleigh has shared that she's keeping her penis. Not all trans people want to play surgical roulette with their genitals. Not all trans folks experience dysphoria related to their genitals.
"Unlike most transgender women, I am proud of the fact that I have male genitalia, I never wish to change them."
Gender is who you are, not whether you stand or sit in the privacy of a bathroom stall.
"My doctors tailor my hormones so there is a high-enough testosterone level to allow me to still use my male genitalia during sex."
It's good that she can be herself and continue to live her life. Sadly, some trans folks feel forced to choose.
"I have no plans to remove them, there are too many constraints on gender where people believe they have to choose male or female."
On Instagram, Kyleigh has shared a number of throwbacks of how her figure looked before surgery. This photo is one of them.
Also taking to Instagram, she has thanked her mother for helping her to transform her body.
"This Christmas I'd like to thank my Mother for going out of her way and making my surgeries a possibility, for helping me become me."
It's wonderful that she's found support from her family and friends.
Obviously, Kyleigh Potts is an outlier among trans women. After all, for most women, the quest to be yourself doesn't involve molding yourself to be more like someone else.
But it's wonderful that she's living her dreams.
Kylie Jenner is living some very different dreams these days.

There are many challenges that come with raising 20 children.
You have to feed and clothe a small army, you have to yell out the right name when you're angry, which is often a challenge even for parents with regular-sized families...
... and of course, you have to remember 20 different birthdays.
Lately, that last task has proven a considerable challenge for Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
Yes, despite their claims of being the planet's foremost super parents, the Duggars have been forgetting birthdays lately.
But don't worry, they've been doing their damnedest to cover their tracks.
Shortly thereafter, Joseph Duggar turned 23, and his parents obviously forgot about his big day entirely.
They compensated by posting a video with a Jay Leno impersonator they'd just happened to run into, which sounds like something only the drunkest of stepdads would attempt to get away with.
Needless to say, the Duggars took quite a bit of flak, for their recent lapses in memory.
So it should come as no surprise that they've taken steps to ensure that no such errors occur again.
After all, forgetting your kids' birthdays is one thing - being called out as anything other than models of perfect parenting is quite another.
Many fans of the family aren't even aware of this, but back in 2016, the Duggars adopted a 20th child.
His name is Tyler Duggar and he celebrated his 10th birthday over the weekend.
Newly self-conscious about assuring the world that they remember the dates all their kids were born, the Duggars took to social media to pay tribute to Tyler.
The Duggars posted the above photo on Facebook, along with a caption praising the newest addition to their massive brood:
"Happy 10th birthday Tyler, a whole decade now!" Michelle and Jim Bob wrote.
"You are such a joy and a delight! We are so thankful for you! We wish you a happy birthday and look forward to another great year!!"
Comments on the post served as a reminder that many fans were not aware of Tyler's existence:
"Happy Birthday young man...Tyler. But, who is Tyler? All Duggar names start with a J," one fan wrote.
"Who is Tyler? I thought all there [sic] kids' names started with a J? Did they adopt?" another remarked.
So it looks like the Duggars haven't been very good about celebrating all things Tyler on social media.
But hey, at least they remembered his birthday!

Kim Kardashian is now a mother of three.
But the former sex tape producer is getting bashed left and right these days for being the owner of two.
Two boobs, that is, in case it somehow wasn't clear.
Last week, Kardashian returned to her famously topless ways by sharing a photo of herself without a shirt on.
This isn't exactly a groundbreaking development, we know.
Kim has posed for most shirtless pictures than Justin Bieber and LeBron James combined -- and yet the latest snapshot stood out for one clear and, according to critics, inappropriate reason:
It was snapped by North West.
Yes, that North West.
We're referring to Kim's four-year old daughter North West, to whom Kardashian gave photo credit for the following racy image:
It doesn't exactly seem like this was an accident, either.
Kim didn't just turn around while getting dressed and, whoops!, there's little North with a camera.
Nope. As you can see above, Kim has her bra pulled down and her hands placed over her nipples, as she poses in the kind of seductive manner she made famous for years on social media and in various magazines.
Only this time, instead of an adult professional behind the camera, it's her toddler daughter.
Sort of weird, right?
YES, says Piers Morgan.
Tweeted the opinionated British TV host in reply to this scandalous picture:
"Kim Kardashian now posting topless photos of herself taken by her 4-year-old daughter. Pathetic and creepy."
Morgan isn't the only celebrity to react VERY poorly to Kardashian's most recent lewd snapshot.
The hosts of The View all agreed Friday that the photo is "tacky and wrong."
Heck, guest panelist Nancy Grace even went as far to allege that child services would be paying Kim a visit if not for her stardom.
That, of course, is totally unfair and absurd.
Say what you want about Kim's often-naked ways, but there's no reason to doubt that she's a terrific, loving mother.
Piers Morgan, meanwhile, has long been a Kardashian hater.
He was even included on her enemies list earlier this year, as Kim oddly sent out samples of her latest fragrances to various stars with whom she has beefed over the years.
"I'm in there with Sharon Osbourne, Taylor Swift and there I am, the only male representative," Morgan said shortly after receiving his quasi gift, adding:
"I'll be sent one of her perfumes in a giant chocolate box... I'm actually quite relived. The chocolate will probably overpower the smell of the scent."
Morgan also went as far recently as to link Kim with the ongoing #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, in a negative sense.
"She's like, 'Ay, look at me. Look at me. Me Too. Times Up.' Time should be up for Mrs. Kardashian," he said, adding:
"I don't know what she adds to the movement really. The only thing moving is her breasts."
That's a weird way to couch his criticism.
Not as weird as having your four-year old child snap a staged photograph of you topless in the bathroom, of course.
But weird nonetheless.

Body-shaming is always wrong. When it comes to body-shaming a gorgeous model like Gigi Hadid, it's also absurd. (Well, it's always absurd)
Gigi Hadid is fighting back after haters tried to attack her appearance at New York Fashion week, posting to Twitter about why her body looks the way that it does but telling people off for asking in the first place.
And she's not mincing words.
Just recently, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid posed naked together, which earned some ... mixed reactions from folks who found it a little squicky. But this criticism is of a very different nature.
In a thread of tweets that has earned praise from fellow models Kendall Jenner and Chrissy Teigen, Gigi Hadid
"For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto's disease."
Hashimoto's thyroidism is an autoimmune disease, which as many as 5% of people face during their lives, and it's much more common in women than in men. Long story short, it results in gradual shrinkage and destruction of the thyroid gland.
"Those of u who called me "too big for the industry" were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that."
Hateful that she was referred to that way.
She continues to defend herself against body-shaming trolls in further tweets:
"Over the last few years I've been properly medicated to help symptoms including those, as well as extreme fatigue, metabolism issues, body's ability to retain heat, etc ... I was also part of a holistic medical trial that helped my thyroid levels balance out."
Of course, though her shamers years ago thought that she was "too big," contemporary haters feel that she's the opposite.
"Although stress & excessive travel can also affect the body, I have always eaten the same, my body just handles it differently now that my health is better. I may be 'too skinny' for u, honestly this skinny isn't what I want to be, but I feel healthier internally and (cont)"
She continues, reminding everyone that she's 22 and her body is still changing.
"(cont) am still learning and growing with my body everyday, as everyone is."
Finally, she puts her foot down.
"I will not further explain the way my body looks, just as anyone, with a body type that doesn't suit ur 'beauty' expectation, shouldn't have to. Not to judge others, but drugs are not my thing, stop putting me in that box just because u don't understand the way my body has matured."
Basically, she shouldn't have to explain her gorgeous figure to anyone, whether she's retaining water or not.
She expresses a plea for people to, you know, be less terrible.
"Please, as social media users & human beings in general, learn to have more empathy for others and know that you never really know the whole story. Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don't."
That's sound advice.
This is not the first time that Gigi Hadid has spoken of her medical condition. A little over a year ago, she told People:
"My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto's disease. It's a thyroid disease, and it's now been two years since taking the medication for it."
Medication can really make a difference.
"It's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the [Victoria's Secret] show I didn't want to lose any more weight."
She has some goals for her own body.
"I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that's good."
First of all, it's awesome that Gigi smacked down her critics the way that she did.
This should also be inspirational to others who face body shaming.
Sure, most can't relate to a supermodel who is gorgeous beyond reason. But if someone like Gigi Hadid's appearance is getting picked apart, both by people who find her "too thin" or "too large," that should tell people who face fat-shaming that trolls will never be satisfied.\
There's nothing wrong with Gigi's figure and there's nothing wrong with anyone else's, either.
It's sad that she had to say what she said, but we're so glad that she did. Gigi Hadid, you're doing amazing.
