Earlier today, the world learned Joy-Anna Duggar has welcomed her first child, a boy named Gideon.
Fans were mostly congratulatory in their response to the news, but perhaps inevitably, a scandal that the Duggars would prefer to forget about reared its ugly head in the wake of the announcement.
As you may recall, when Joy first announced that she was expecting her first child, many questioned her claims about her date of conception.
Joy claimed that she got pregnant during her honeymoon, but fans had their doubts.
Rumors of a "shotgun wedding" were everywhere during Joy's pregnancy, and many fans believed the truth would come out when the child arrived.
But now, young Gideon has entered the world, and the debate rages on:
Did Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth violate her family's strict courtship rules?
As you probably know, Duggars are permitted virtually zero physical contact with the opposite sex prior to marriage.
At this point, Jim Bob and Michelle are almost as well-known for their hard-line stance against premarital sex as for the massive size of their brood.
Duggars who have yet to say "I do" are not allowed to kiss, be alone together, or hold hands for more than a few seconds.
Needless to say, the family's wholesome reputation would take quite a hit if it turned out that Joy and Austin went so far beyond the guidelines as to sire a child before their wedding.
So while the idea of Joy-Anna lying about the date of her conception may sound absurd, it's not hard to see why she might be motivated to do so.
Conspiracy theorists were convinced that Joy's lie would be exposed when her baby arrived well ahead of schedule.
Tabloids went so far as to consult with doctors, many of whom examined photos and concluded that Joy was further along than she claimed to be.
And yet, today, little Gideon entered the world 39 weeks after his parents were married.
Which means in all likelihood, Joy got pregnant in late May or early June of 2016.
Her wedding was held on May 26.
So why aren't the Duggars doing an online victory lap today?
Well, there are several reasons for that.
The first, and most obvious is that it would be coarse and crass to use the birth of a child as a "told you so moment."
They deserve credit for taking the high road in not doing so.
On top of that, the family policy toward gossip is simply not to address it publicly.
Whether the newa is good, bad, or neutral, if the announcement didn't come directly from the Duggars, it's a safe bet the Duggars won't talk about it.
The third reason why you'll likely never hear a word from the Duggars on the issue of Joy's conception date is simple:
According to those who know them best, the Duggars simply want this mess to go away.
The fact remains that Joy-Anna and Austin did confess to breaking courtship rules, and Joy-Anna giving birth near her due date doesn't definitively prove that she didn't get pregnant a few days earlier than she would have us believe.
Despite all of that, the Duggars are no doubt conscious of the fact that they scored a minor victory over their detractors today,
But they're probably also aware that to gloat would be tempt their critics to do some digging.

Ensa Cosby, the daughter of actor/comedian, Bill Cosby, was found dead in her Massachusetts home on Friday evening, multiple outlets have now confirmed.
She was 44 years old.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
However, TMZ reports that Ensa (who worked as a Yoga instructor) suffered from a number of health issues, including a very serious kidney problem.
It is believed she was on the list for a transplant at the time of her passing.
Ensa made news last year when she issued a lengthy statement in support of her father, who has been accused of drugging and assaulting over 60 women.
The comedian's rape trial ended in a mistrial last summer and the date for a new one has not yet been announced.
Cosby and all members of his family have maintained the star's innocence ever since the first allegation came to light.
Ensa made her voice known in May of 2017, ahead of one of the Cosby Show alum's court appearances.
This is what she wrote about her dad and the charges against him:
I am a very private person and have chosen to live my life quietly with my family. But for my child, my niece, my nephew, and my father, I cannot sit quietly anymore.
The accusations against my father have been one-sided from the beginning.
When he tried to defend himself, he was sued in civil court.
I've seen the accusations become more horrific and extreme with time, and I've witnessed my father's reputation and legendary works be dismissed without any proof.
The statement continued as follows:
I strongly believe my father is innocent of the crimes alleged against him, and I believe that racism has played a big role in all aspects of this scandal...
My father has been publicly lynched in the media.
My family, my young daughter, my young niece and nephew have had to stand helplessly by and watch the double standards of pretending to protect the rights of some.
But ignoring the rights of others and exposing innocent children to such appalling accusations about someone they love dearly and who has been so loving and kind to them is beyond cruel.
Bill and his wife, Camille Cosby, are also the parents of Erika, 52, Erinn, 51, and Evin, 41.
Their son Ennis was murdered at the age of 27 in a botched robbery attempt in Los Angeles in 1997.
May Ensa Cosby rest in peace.

The Little Couple is one of several reality series that follow the lives of little people, showing the viewers at home that little people are so much more than jesters and background actors and comedic relief.
But when will Dr. Jen Arnold and Bill Klein and their precious children return from this lengthy hiatus?
There's good news on that front, folks.
Last year, new episodes of The Little Couple premiered in September.
At the time, the reality series was marred by a scandal of sorts -- but one that thankfully (refreshingly, even) did not involve the stars.
The point of contention -- and lawsuit -- was between Discovery Communications and the show's production company, LMNO Productions.
Discovery alleged that LMNO was extorting money out of them by falsifying production costs on The Little Couple in order to pocket more money and cheat profit participants out of their fair shares.
LMNO accused Discovery of engaging in a criminal conspiracy to steal multiple shows that they produce out from under them.
It was shaping up to be a nasty court battle, and left fans and viewers wondering when it would ever end.
However, Variety reports that Discovery Communications and LMNO Productions have settled their lawsuit.
"LMNO and Discovery have reached an amicable settlement of the claims between them in the litigation."
it's important to note that LMNO said that their alleged accounting discrepancies were due to the embezzlement by one accountant.
"The settlement resolves all claims and issues that were asserted in the case between LMNO and Discovery to the mutual satisfaction of both parties."
But they're not going to share any details.
"The terms remain confidential, and the parties have agreed to make no further comment regarding the settlement agreement."
We'll always be left to wonder what went down, it seems.
So ... where does this leave The Little Couple?
It looks like they're back in business.
In fact, with their legal troubles behind them, it seems likely that The Little Couple -- the titular couple and their adorable adopted children -- will be back on the air before you know it.
Perhaps even within the next few months.
After all, even while the show was on hiatus, their lives continued.
Last year, Jen and Bill moved to Florida.
Dr. Jen Arnold is a neonatologist. For a long time, the couple lived in Houston, Texas -- and of course they added their voices to the call for hurricane relief in the devastating wake of last year's storms.
Now that they're in Florida, fans and viewers will likely get to see the two of them raising their children.
Will is 7 years old. Zoey is 5 years old.
Both of them are adopted and both of them are also little people, and we're not just saying that because they're children.
Some "fans" have made terrible comments under a couple of photos of Zoey, implying that she hates the move to Florida or that she has "emotional issues" because she doesn't always smile in pictures.
(For the record, she smiles plenty)
There are some folks among every group of fans who seem prepared to ruin it all for everyone.
All things considered, adjusting to life in Florida won't be a major hurdle for this family.
Several years ago, Dr. Jen found that she had a rare form of cancer and had to endure chemotherapy treatments.
She did, however, go into remission.
Fans are eager to see the family continue its journey and tell their story on their television screens, and Jen has confirmed over social media that they've been filming.
When an actual premiere date has been announced, we'll let you know.

Khloe Kardashian is pregnant and having either a boy or a girl.
This is almost definitely a fact.
But we can't say for certain because the following preview for Sunday's season 14 finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians teases Khloe on the verge of telling her family about the gender of her impending child...
... only for Kourtney Kardashian to react in total and complete shock.
"Do you want to know what I'm having?" Khloe asks in this sneak peek, resulting in Kourtney yelling in reply:
Perhaps Kourtney was really confident Khloe was having a daughter? Or a son? And this news in the opposite of that expectation?
Perhaps Khloe is having some sort of alien robot?
Perhaps this clip was edited and Kourtney's reaction doesn't actually follow Khloe's major reveal?
We'll need to tune in and watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians online or on our television screens in a few days to find out!
Khloe is about 31 weeks along with her first child.
The father, of course, is Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player Tristan Thompson.
Unlike half-sister Kylie, who welcomed her first child a few weeks ago, Khloe has been rather open and candid about her pregnancy.
Heck, she even discussed pregnancy sex and how it's not the same as regular sex.
And she sounded beyond excited back when she confirmed the baby news.
"My greatest dream realized! We are having a baby!" wrote Khloe as a caption to an Instagram photo of her baby bump, adding on December 20:
"I had been waiting and wondering but God had a plan all along. He knew what He was doing.
"I simply had to trust in Him and be patient. I still at times can't believe that our love created life!"
It really is incredible, isn't it?
Check out the following preview for a look at what's to come on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians finale:

Chicago was born via surrogate -- a smart and healthy choice considering the health risks that Kim would have endured with another pregnancy. But reports have claimed that something's different with this new child.
Kim Kardashian is reportedly distant -- but is apparently also insisting that no one tell Chicago about the surrogacy? How long does she think that she can keep it a secret.
This is a little odd, folks, and we'll explain why.
RadarOnline reports that Kim Kardashian asks her family to let her be the one to tell Chicago -- when she's old enough to, you know, understand language and process the information -- about how she was born.
"Kim asked her family to never tell Chicago that she was born via surrogate."
If you're wondering how long Kim thinks that she could possibly keep that up, what with the surrogacy being famous and all, she apparently does plan for Chicago to eventually learn the truth.
"Kim said that she wants to be the one to tell Chicago the story of how she was conceived and she does not want to do so until she asks."
So she plans to hold out until the inevitable "where do babies come from?" question. That makes sense.
However, it sounds like Kanye's unhappy with Kim's request -- and there might be more too it.
See, there have also been some bizarre reports that lead some to believe that Kim Kardashian may be neglecting baby Chicago.
Or, at the very least, not having the sort of bond with her that she did with North and Saint after they were born.
Reports claim that Kim seems less maternal in the aftermath of Chicago's birth.
Descriptions make it sound like she's phoning in motherhood with sweet baby Chi.
Could it be true?
Claims made to RadarOnline go on to suggest that Kim Kardashian views family as another part of her brand.
"Kim's desire to have more kids comes from her need to stay rich and relevant."
And, per these reports, that it's driving a wedge between the Wests.
"But Kanye is starting to see how fake she is and, at this point, doesn't want to add any more children to the mix. He is starting to not even recognize her at all anymore."
That is stunning if true.
And Kanye is reportedly unhappy that Kim seems less devoted as a new mother this time around.
"It's creating a lot of arguments for Kanye. He just doesn't think that she's into it."
Obviously, you can't just not be into your responsibilities as a parent.
"She just can't quit with her selfie and body obsession -- and it's pushing Kanye away once more."
That's curious, since Kanye's taken at least some of Kim's seductive photos.
"He thought she'd calmed down when the new baby came, but it's actually gotten worse."
Now, we hope that someone's just confused or has heard mixed signals, because Kim Kardashian loves her family and we'd hate to imagine her treating a baby born via surrogate any differently than she treated those she pushed out herself.
It may even be that someone is deliberately spreading rumors about her. Sometimes, a celebrity's friend can become their worst enemy.
As for the request that no one tell Chicago about the surrogacy until she asks -- well, that makes sense.
When your child asks about reproduction, you should tell them the truth -- yes, even if they're super young. That includes things like surrogacy.
We don't think that Kim thinks that she can keep Chicago in a bubble for life. But a mom who wants to be the one to tell her daughter about how she was born doesn't sound like a neglectful mother to us.

Last week, Teen Mom 2 fans rejoiced when David Eason was fired from the show for hurling homophobic slurs on social media.
Even before he revealed himself to be the most abhorrent type of bigot, David was not exactly a fan favorite.
And it seems viewers weren't the only ones who were not totally enamored with Jenelle Evans' controversial husband.
In the days since David's firing was made official, several stars of the Teen Mom franchise have openly condemned Eason and applauded MTV for cutting ties with him.
The most vocal critic has been Leah Messer's ex-husband Jeremy Calvert, who went full 8 Mile on David and Jenelle in an Instagram Live rant.
"[Jenelle's] apology is cracking me up … you can't sit there and say you didn't know what was going to happen when you tweeted that stuff about the gay community," Jeremy said.
"You say you don't know how to use Twitter but, goddam it, you use it an awful lot for not knowing how to use it."
Calvert went on to say David should be living in fear these days:
"If I were them I'd be scared to leave my f**king house or even show my face in public right now," he told the camera.
Jeremy even went so far as to encourage Jenelle's previous baby daddy, Nathan Griffith, to fight for full custody of his son:
"If Nathan don't try to get his kid, I don't know what to tell that dude," Jeremy said. "I would have already been in court … even if I had to empty my savings account out, I'd go broke."
Jeremy went on to deliver a vicious finishing move, deriding Jenelle as "idiots":
"I know a lot of people in production who won't go out to Jenelle's house and put a camera in her face anymore," Jeremy said.
"I've had enough of MTV putting up with these two idiots."
He drove the nail into David's coffin with a crack about his lack of employment:
"David's ass is in hot water, might lose that MTV money, might have to get a f**king job—uh oh," Calvert said.
As the only Teen Mom baby daddy with a job outside of the show, Jeremy is allowed to talk smack on this subject.
As for Griffith, he's also speaking out against his ex and her deeply problematic new husband:
"I have my own beliefs and my own opinions but to segregated, belittle and to hate someone based on their opinions, lifestyle, region, race, and/or sexual orientation is wrong," Nathan tweeted.
"PERIOD! It's 2018! As long as it doesn't affect your life, then let it go. #lovemorehateless"
It seems the moms and dads of the Teen Mom franchise are fully woke these days!
And it sounds like they're eager to leave the Easons in the past.
Watch Teen Mom 2 online to remind yourself of just how troubling Jenelle and David's behavior can be.

Heather Locklear is in pretty serious trouble with the law.
The veteran actress was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of domestic violence and assault on police officer, Captain Dean Cook of the Thousand Oaks Police Department tells The Hollywood Reporter.
She was booked into the Ventura County jail, but has since been released on bail.
Not many details are available at this time, but authorities reported to a disturbance call at a home in Thousand Oaks, TMZ writes.
During the arrest, Locklear allegedly became combative and even attacked an officer on scene.
Cook explains the one count of domestic violence is a felony and the three counts of battery of emergency personnel are misdemeanors.
Locklear also posed for this mug shot, which doesn't exactly flatter the long-time sitcom and drama star:
According to the 911 call, per TMZ, the actress' brother came to her residence and witness Locklear arguing with her boyfriend, whose name has not been released.
The brother is in the individual who dialed 911.
Upon their arrival, the cops noticed that the boyfriend had a visible mark on his face and proceeded to take Locklear into custody.
But she was NOT having it.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Locker flailed, kicked and actually struck three deputies while they attemped to detain her.
Eventually, the star was handcuffed and taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The 56-year-old has gotten into plenty of hot water in the past, often related to her substance abuse issues.
She's been arrested for drunk driving and battled an addiction to prescription drugs.
In 2011, Los Angeles cops was dispatched to Jack Wagner's home - her then-boyfriend and former Melrose Place colleague - after the pair allegedly got physical with each other during a heated argument.
At the time a law enforcement source said the following to TMZ:
"She lost it on him and he retaliated."
Neither wanted to press charges against the other at the time.
Locklear is best known for her roles on Spin City and Melrose Place.
She's been nominated for six Golden Globes and guest-starred last year on an episode of the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat.
But her successful career has stalled over the past decade or so, ever since she started to get in trouble with both the law and alcohol/drugs.
It's a shame, really.
We wish Locklear the best and hope she receives the treatment she appears to badly need.

If you hear someone say that she'd rather "be on safari," she might be talking about Safaree Samuels.
There was a time when he was best known for being Nicki Minaj's ex, or perhaps for getting a beat-down from Meek Mills.
Right now, his biggest claim to fame might be his leaked nudes.
And we do mean biggest. Based on Twitter's response, it looks like Safaree is what one might call anatomically blessed.
Obviously, no one deserves to have their nudes leaked. Those are private photos and for someone to broadcast them to the world is a terrible violation.
But those who saw the images -- often without looking for them, as leaked nudes make quite a splash and it's easy to see them without ever meaning to -- couldn't help but comment.
Social media is a great platform for comedy, and many of these responses were next-level.
Take a look:
1. Safaree Samuels
2. Naturally, someone had to involve Kylie Jenner in this
3. It looks like some men just aren't measuring up in comparison
4. Safaree's getting new fans, it seems
5. They think that Safaree might make some new "friends"
6. Safaree's been the butt of jokes in the past

Megyn Kelly is most definitely making an impact as the anchor of her very own Today Show hour.
But we somehow doubt it's the impact NBC had been hoping she'd make when she was hired.
The former Fox News star has failed to garner impressive ratings, while she has managed to make headlines for a variety of negative reasons.
Kelly hurled endless shade at Jane Fonda, picking a fight with the veteran actress simply because Fonda questioned the appropriate nature of a plastic surgery-related question Kelly once asked her on air.
Executives were said to have been shaking their heads at the time over Kelly's actions.
Twitter, too, as you can see here:
Kelly also once implied that fat people ought to be shamed for their weight.
It's been a tough run for her.
And it may not get any easier any time soon, not after an ex-Fox News makeup artist named Iren Halperin spoke to Page Six.
In a bombshell interview, Halperin detailed how Kelly mistreated various members of her staff back in the day, specifically female members of her staff.
"She's disrespectful," Halperin tells the newspaper. "She's not for women. She's extremely mean and rude to women."
Halperin retired from the business in 2016 and worked with Kelly in 2009, when the latter co-anchored "America's Newsroom With Bill Hemmer."
She points to Kelly as a hypocrite because she claims these days to support the #MeToo Movement - and she told one story, for example, of how Kelly once kicked a female reporter out of the makeup chair because she refused to wait her turn.
Halperin added that Kelly lied to management in the past about her not coming in to work due to "child care issues" after management asked to speak to Halperin...
... and that she finally asked to be switched to a different anchor.
Another Fox News employee interviewed for this New York Post story also demanded a reassignment as a result of Kelly's attitude.
"She was difficult and demanding," Halperin says. "If you didn't do what she wanted, she would try to get you in trouble."
Kelly was known as an outspoken Conservative during her successful time at Fox.
But she has attempted to become far more mainstream at NBC; she's tried to appeal to a mass audience, as if she's just another morning show personality along the lines of Kelly Ripa or Hoda Kotb.
And she's thus far failed miserably at selling this persona.
Take her January Nielsen ratings in the coveted 25-to-54-year-old demographic:
They are nearly 30 percent lower than they were for Tamron Hall and Al Roker's show when it was in the same time slot last year. Ouch.
Just how bad have things gotten after just a few months for Kelly and her program?
A high-ranking NBC veteran told Page Six that the atmosphere is so tense that staffers frequently "cry" on set.
Adds this insider:
"She is hated inside the Today show and is seen as tarnishing the brand, out of control and selfish."
