March 30: Hindustan Times report by Imtiaz Ahmad states that Pakistan has conducted a test of its nuclear-capable, submarine-launched cruise missile (SLCM), Babur, which has a range of 450 km, with the country's military saying the weapon system provides it a "credible second strike capability". Pakistan has been working hard on developing this capability -- to carry out a retaliatory nuclear strike even after an enemy's nuclear attack destroys or neutralizes its land-based nuclear arsenal -- which India already has.

March 30: CNN report by Isambard Wilkinson states that St George's Cross billows above the castellated twin towers of the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection. Inside, beams of light pour through stained-glass windows onto choir stalls and memorial plaques engraved with names like Sir Alexander Hutchinson Lawrence. This Anglican church could easily have been built in an English shire. But it stands at the traffic-choked center of the Pakistani city of Lahore, sharing a skyline with Mughal-era domes and minarets.

March 31: Eurasia Review report by Vikram Sood states that Pakistani authorities will make cosmetic changes of incumbents handling crucial matters, rope in foreign ambassadors, diplomats, military attaches and foreign media based in Islamabad. One can see differences, if not fissures in US policy. While the US President is all brimstone and fire, new nuclear sanctions have been imposed, the Pentagon is speaking in far more conciliatory terms. Establishments and advisers change in the US in eight, if not four, years.
