REPORT: Trump attorney owes city over $50K in cab medallion taxes

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:33 AM PDT

According to New York’s Department of Taxation and Finance, President Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, owes $53,836 in unpaid taxi medallion taxes.

Cohen, 51, and his Ukraine-born wife, Laura, 48, own at least 32 taxi permits and are required to pay 50 cents to New York for each cab ride taken, with the money designated to fund public transportation. Cohen’s medallions have been managed by associates of Evgeny Freidman, a Russian-born taxi magnate also known as the “Taxi King.”

New York state tax records revealed that, in some cases, required fees are not being paid on rides taken in taxis associated with Cohen's medallions, resulting in the unpaid tax bill. The amounts of the 11 tax warrants range from $2,031 to $10,166, with the oldest dating back to 2013, and the most recent is from 2018, the Daily Mail reported.

The warrants are connected to three companies — Smoochie Cab Corp., Martha Cab Corp. and Laf Hacking Corp. — and were all sent to Michael Cohen directly. Some listed his home address on Park Ave. in Manhattan.

Cohen’s tax debts were initially reported in August, at which time he and his wife owed $37,434 in taxi taxes. The debt has continued to grow since then.

In order to recoup the tax debt, New York has the power to garnish wages, seize property, suspend driver's licenses, subpoena offenders and demand that they detail their finances under oath.

Cohen has blamed Freidman for the tax debt. Last June, Freidman was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal tax fraud and one count of grand larceny. The case is pending.

On Monday, FBI agents raided Cohen's office and seized documents related to his taxi medallion ownership. The agents also confiscated records associated with Cohen’s $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels 11 days before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels claims that she was paid by Cohen to keep quiet about an alleged affair she had with Trump in 2006.

Cohen has claimed that he made the payment to Daniels with his own money, which he raised via a home-equity line of credit. He has insisted that he was not repaid by the Trump Organization or the Trump campaign.

Senator in tough position after aligning with group defending sex-trafficking site

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:25 AM PDT

Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri has found herself in a challenging position due to her support for The Women’s March, which is now defending the Backpage.com website that was used for child sex trafficking prior to being shut down last Friday.

McCaskill participated in the initial Women’s March, and has worked to capitalize on its reach in her 2018 reelection bid.

Backpage.com was seized last Friday and its cofounders now face 93 federal charges related to facilitating prostitution through the website, which was characterized by Attorney General Jeff Sessions as “the dominant marketplace for illicit commercial sex” and “a place where sex traffickers frequently advertised children and adults alike.”

McCaskill participated in a bipartisan investigation into Backpage and called its seizure “great news.” Republicans and Democrats joined McCaskill in praising the action against the site, The Washington Free Beacon reported.

However, McCaskill’s allies at The Women’s March disagreed with the seizure of Backpage.com, deeming  it an “absolute crisis” and declaring that “sex workers rights are women’s rights.”

The Women’s March referred to work by Collective Action for Safe Spaces, a pro-prostitution group that claims that “sex work is consensual.”

“The crackdown on Backpage is not about ending trafficking; it's motivated by the patriarchal notion that women should not be free to do what we want with our bodies,” CASS argued.

McCaskill has aligned herself with The Women’s March since its initial January 21, 2017, worldwide event, which she called an “inspiring” reminder of why she fights.

McCaskill attended the Women’s March in St. Louis and told MSNBC the following day that she would “try very hard to capture this energy and make sure it translates into volunteers and door knocking” for the 2018 midterm elections.

Since then, McCaskill has leveraged her alignment with The Women’s March to raise funds and to compile a list of attendees to be used for political reasons.

“Millions of women stood strong today,” McCaskill tweeted on the afternoon of the march, including a fundraising link and the #Marchers4McCaskill hashtag. “Now it’s time to fight. 2018 is soon! Please give $5.”

Trump nominates federal judge candidate who declined to pursue Trump University lawsuit

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:16 AM PDT

President Donald Trump has nominated a candidate to fill a federal judge vacancy who is a former deputy Texas attorney general who declined to pursue a $5.4 million lawsuit against Trump University.

David S. Morales was nominated by Trump to fill a vacant seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, according to a Wednesday report in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

In 2016, while serving as deputy attorney general to then-Attorney General Greg Abbot, a Republican who is now governor of Texas, Morales declined to pursue the lawsuit against Trump and Trump University. At the time, Morales released a statement regarding the disposition of the lawsuit, which also noted that he had not discussed his decision with Abbott.

Following Trump’s nomination of Morales, Texas’ Republican U.S. senators, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, released a joint statement lauding Trump's appointment and calling for Morales’ "swift" confirmation.

Cruz previously worked with Morales in the Texas Attorney General's office.

"Having worked side-by-side with David in the Texas Attorney General's Office defending the constitutional rights of Texans, I know firsthand that he will be a principled, passionate defender of the Constitution and the rule of law,” Cruz said in the statement.

On Monday, a federal judge finalized a $25 million settlement between Trump and former students of Trump University, which was closed in 2010. The former students contended that they were misled when enrolling in the university's real estate seminars and received essentially worthless "educations."

Trump has not admitted to any wrongdoing in the Trump University case.

REPORT: Migrant Surge Yields 82 Assaults on Border Patrol Agents in February

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:04 AM PDT

DML News brings you the following information from BREITBART.COM:

Illegal immigrants crossing the border assaulted more than 80 Border Patrol agents in February. The incidents account for more than 85 percent of the assaults on U.S. Customs and Border Protection law enforcement officers.

During the first six months of Fiscal Year 2018, CBP officials reported assaults on 312 Border Patrol agents, according to a CBP report released on April 6. Eighty-two of those occurred in February, a month where the apprehension of migrants crossing the border jumped by 203 percent over the same period in 2017.

The article went on to state the following:

In year-to-year comparisons, assaults on Border Patrol agents are down by 32 percent. However, that comparison last month showed a decrease of 44 percent. During Fiscal Year 2017, CBP officials reported assaults on 847 law enforcement officers. This represents the highest number of assaults in the past six fiscal years.

Assaults on CBP Office of Field Operations officers jumped by 50 percent during the first six months of FY 2018. The April 6 report shows assaults on 36 CBP officers — up from 24 in the same period the year before. Assaults on CBP Air and Marine Operations personnel rose from four in FY 2017 year-to-date numbers to 18 in FY 2018.

REPORT: Dem defeats Trump delegate in Florida state Senate special election

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:02 AM PDT

DML News brings you the following information from TheHill.com:

The Democratic candidate in a Florida state Senate special election overwhelmingly defeated her GOP opponent, a delegate for President Trump during the 2016 election.

Democrat Lori Berman easily won the special election in the state’s 31st District with 74.8 percent of the vote. Republican Tami Donnally earned about 25.2 percent with nearly all precincts reporting, according to the Florida Division of Elections.

The article went on to state the following:

"This is a win for the people of Palm Beach County on the issues that matter to us," Berman, a current state lawmaker, said, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The Hill noted that lack of Republican votes in the area:

Donnally, the vice chair of the Palm Beach County Republican Party and a 2016 delegate for Trump, told the Post that she was "disappointed" that more Republicans didn't turn out to vote.

"And I don't know why … but Palm Beach County is so blue and it feels as if it'll never happen for the Republicans," she added.

VIDEO: Florida student eviscerates school board in Parkland hearing

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 07:29 AM PDT

Written by DML
Two weeks ago, I broke the news about Kenneth Preston, 19, and his report on the alleged mismanagement of funds by the Broward County School District in Florida. Preston appeared Wednesday, April 10, as a speaker at the district’s board meeting and lit up the room with shocking revelations.

Preston, who is a home-school senior year student, spent weeks collecting public data and conducting face to face interviews with people familiar with the practices of the district’s superintendent, Mr. Robert Runcie.

According to Preston, Runcie and the school board sat on most of the money granted by tax payers to keep schools safe, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. On February 14, 2018, former student Nikolas Cruz entered Stoneman Douglas and went on a shooting spree, killing 17 people and injuring another 17.

In his report, Preston points out that the board was given roughly $104,000,000 in public grants to secure the schools in 2014, but that as of 2018 only a small portion of the money had been spent. The total amount used to date is roughly $5,000,000.  Thus, leaving nearly $100 million unused.

In addition, Preston discovered what could be deemed as questionable behavior by the school board when considering its reliance on the PROMISE program, which was originally put in place by the Obama administration.

The PROMISE program makes it so school districts must limit the punishments and reporting to authorities of unruly and or criminal students if they are minorities. If they fail to abide by the PROMISE program practices, the district risks losing grant money from the Federal Government.

According to Preston, criminal students with history of rape and severe violence are permitted to attend public schools in Broward.

Preston was introduced to me last month by Andy Pollack, father of Meadow Pollack.  Meadow was shot 9 times and died in the Stoneman massacre.

I met with Preston in person to discuss his report.  At the time, he was seeking media attention and advise about how to present his information to the press. Sadly, but not shockingly, DML News was the only recognizable media outlet to take him seriously.

DML News first ran the story two weeks ago.  Immediately following our report, Mr. Runcie tweeted that Preston’s claims added up to nothing more than “fake news.”

On Wednesday, April 10, amid a packed audience filled with members of the Parkland community, Preston spoke for just over 2-minutes at the school board meeting.  Preston shocked all in attendance when revealing that Runcie had called for an impromptu meeting with Preston on Tuesday, April 9, to discuss his report.

Preston claims he asked Runcie if he could bring a lawyer to the meeting, but was told “no”.

In addition, Preston asked if he could record the meeting but was denied the opportunity. According to Preston, Runcie rejected both requests because he himself would not be represented by a lawyer, nor would he be recording the meeting.

But as Preston explained in his statement Wednesday, Runcie showed up to the meeting with 10 school district representatives, making it an ambush-style meeting that lasted two-hours. According to Preston, the meeting was an attempt to “reeducate him” about what he learned during his investigation into the school board.

Preston then went on to say that moments before the April 10 hearing was to begin, the board took action to reject 7 of the speakers the 19-year-old had brought with him to help defend his report, some of them family members of victims in the Stoneman shooting.  Furthermore, Preston was limited to 3-minutes of presentation time versus the original 6-minutes he was scheduled.

Preston concluded by asking why Runcie and ten representatives from the district would take so much time and effort to meet with a 19-year-old if his report was not credible.  He did not receive an answer.

Preston’s full statement can be viewed below:

Trump Tweet: What caused the ‘bad blood’ with Russia

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 07:27 AM PDT

President Trump lashed out at Russia early Wednesday morning, over their threat to shoot down any missiles fired at Syria, and warned that Russia better get ready, because the missiles are coming.

In another tweet, he noted that “our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been,” and said there is no reason for it.

Now, in a follow-up tweet, the president reflected on what he feels caused the relationship with Russia to crumble. Trump tweeted:

Much of the bad blood with Russia is caused by the Fake & Corrupt Russia Investigation, headed up by the all Democrat loyalists, or people that worked for Obama. Mueller is most conflicted of all (except Rosenstein who signed FISA & Comey letter). No Collusion, so they go crazy!

Gun-rights group urges Sessions to act against those infringing on Second Amendment rights

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 07:21 AM PDT

A gun-rights group is urging Attorney General Jeff Sessions to withhold federal funding from state and local governments that adopt policies that infringe on Second Amendment rights.

Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, said in a statement, “The liberal municipal governments of such cities as New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle, and states including New Jersey, Connecticut, California and Massachusetts should not be receiving taxpayer funds while violating the constitutional rights of those taxpayers.”

Gottlieb called it “ironic that all of those places are willing to spend millions of dollars to attack the rights of gun owners, when they should be protecting civil and constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment.”

In a letter to Sessions, Gottlieb contended that state and local gun-control measures have failed to reduce violent crime, yet resulted in reduced defense options for law-abiding people, The Washington Free Beacon reported.

“Why should American taxpayers see their hard-earned money used to erode their fundamental rights?” Gottlieb asked. “Those of us on the front lines of this civil rights battle see this as the ultimate abandonment of common sense. When government becomes the enemy of its constituents, it should be penalized, not rewarded.”

Gottlieb noted that certain state and local governments have ignored the Supreme Court decisions declaring that the Constitution protects individual gun rights, and that must not be allowed to continue.

“These stubborn anti-gun local governments will spitefully hurt their citizens any way they can,” Gottlieb said. “The time has come to slap them down, and the best way to get their attention is to turn off the funding spigot.”

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms will continue to pressure Sessions into action by launching a national petition drive among its 650,000 members and supporters.

DML: I Respond to Some of Your Emails

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 05:38 AM PDT

Below are the answers I’ve given to some of the messages sent to me by DML News readers.

To send a message, use the submit news button on our website.

FROM SEAN
We need people to go to GOP.com and post things such as… Republicans in House and Senate need to stand behind and support President Trump. They are not doing that now. People like Lindsey Graham will keep republicans from voting in 2018. Mueller investigation needs to end and investigations into DNC, Hillary and Obama need to begin. Why are you allowing Mueller to run unheeded yet won’t look into actual crimes by Democrats?  We have House, Senate and Presidency, lets act like it. Meuller needs to be fired and crimes by Democrats investigated. We need to do something before idiots like Graham and Sessions ruin our Republic.

DML: Agree and disagree.  In my opinion, launching new investigations are a road to nowhere.  I’d prefer to see the Senate and House work on fixing problems instead of these investigations that cost money and result in nothing.

FROM LISA
Good morning, would President Trump be impeached if he fired Mueller? If so, why? Kindly explain what the hubbub would be if this took place. Thank you.

DML: He would have to be found guilty of a crime, and then even if he was impeached he doesn’t need to leave office.  The debate is whether he would be guilty of obstruction of justice if he indeed fires Mueller.  Personally, I don’t think he would be.

FROM JEFFREY
Facebook blackout. I will be participating. Wish you would have advised to do the same…..disappointed!!!

DML: I don’t call for blackouts on something I use to inform people about the news.  There are ways to fight back against Facebook without shooting yourself in the foot. Disappointed you’d want me to do such a thing.  You really think that cheap trick will work?  Good luck.

FROM DENENE
DML, for the first time in al the years I've watched you and followed you, I left feeling hopeless, that everything we worked for is all going to hell and we lost our country today to the democrats! I cried and cried! No more DML hope or direction??? I will always follow you but this show hurt physically to watch!
The clip you showed today was you telling someone in an interview, you will be on them like white on rice, so when does the white on rice start? When do we fight? When do We The People step in and take back our Country? Because it's time for white on rice!

DML: Are you kidding me with this?  Where’s the white on rice?  Perhaps you want me to burn myself at the stake outside the White House.

FROM PAM
Hello, DML, I've been listening to the blah, blah, blah from Zuckerberg.  I only wish you could sit up there and tell your story.  They do censor conservatives and he knows it.  I have set my feed to see your posts first and it still isn't working.  At least Ted Cruz got in a bit of news.  It's really sickening to hear this.

DML: Of course he knows.  Maybe the end of his BS is near.  Lets see.

FROM PAT
DML, I know I have said this before about your other shows but I have to say it again about todays show.  It was the most heartfelt truthful show to date.  I can't get enough of your commentary. I hope your new program will continue to be as great.  I also hope you will continue Walk & Talks because they are a part of who you are and what we love about you. Can't wait for your new videos. DML good luck with your new app films and website. A dedicated team DML follower. And God bless you and your family you're the best.

DML: Thank you for all the kind words.

FROM JARED
Last night I finished the 5th DML film, A DAY AT BUNDY’S.  I spent 5 nights watching your 5 films.  I watched the 3 immigration films. Then I sent the free copies to the White house like you explained and sent a note that expressed my frustration that the president has not done more to cut off the magnet to jobs for illegals.  I then watched WE RIDE TO DC and then the BUNDY film.  I have 4 comments to make.
#1: You are the best documentary filmmaker I have ever watched.
#2: You inform on the immigration issue like no person on the news ever has or will and I cannot understand why you are not on Fox News every day.
#3: There is no question in my mind after watching these videos that you should be the president of this country.
#4: You are either the craziest person in America or the bravest.  Watching you approach the BLM with guns pointed at you was so incredible it felt fake.
Thanks for what you do.

DML: I can assure of two things. One, I am not crazy. Two, it was extremely real.  Thanks for buying the films and sharing the free-bees with Trump.  People can buy the films by clicking here.

REPORT: Moscow likely behind hack on German govt, spy chief says

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 05:28 AM PDT

DML News brings you the following information from REUTERS.COM:

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany's head of domestic intelligence said on Wednesday there was a "high likelihood" that the Russian government was behind a cyber attack on German computer networks, although he conceded it was difficult to be 100-percent certain.

Hans-Georg Maassen told reporters that German authorities carefully monitored the attack after it was discovered in December, and it had not caused any damage.

The article went on to state the following:

He said there was no evidence to link it to APT28, the Russian hacking group blamed for a May 2015 attack on the German lower house of parliament and the U.S. Democratic National Committee ahead of the 2016 U.S. election.

However, Maassen said the attack was considered an "advanced persistent threat (APT)", a phrase used by experts to describe a cyber attack so sophisticated and complex that it can only be carried out by a government entity.

REPORT: DeVos review of racial bias guidance stirs controversy

Posted: 11 Apr 2018 05:22 AM PDT

DML News brings you the following information from TheHill.com:

Civil rights groups are fighting to stop Education Secretary Betsy DeVos from rolling back Obama-era guidance on school discipline that aimed to protect black students from being punished more severely than their white peers.

DeVos met with education advocates on the left and right last week to talk about the joint guidance the Education and Justice departments issued in 2014 to help schools avoid policies that discriminate, even unintentionally, against black students.

The article went on to state the following:

Some Republicans and conservatives have argued the guidance has made schools less safe and contributed to the deadly Parkland, Fla., high school shooting in February.

Others say the administration is using the shooting as an excuse to roll back critical guidance that helps protect students from discrimination under federal civil rights laws.
