VIDEO: ‘Stupid question’: Trump curtly dismisses a reporter’s question at event with French president

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 09:48 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by WashingtonPost:

With French President Emmanuel Macron seated beside him in the Oval Office, President Trump seemed at ease Tuesday as he parried questions from reporters, many focusing on the Iran nuclear deal, over which Trump and Macron are at odds.

Then the mood changed dramatically.

The article goes on to state the following:

Jonathan Karl of ABC News asked the U.S. president whether he would consider a pardon for Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime lawyer who is now under federal investigation for possible bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations.

Trump snapped and offered a two-word response: "Stupid question."

The president then encouraged other questions from reporters and proceeded to provide relatively long answers.

REPORT: Conservative Parkland student grilled by school security for visiting gun range with dad

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 09:19 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by The Daily Wire:

On Friday, Parkland survivor Kyle Kashuv went to the gun range to learn to fire a gun for the first time, alongside his father.

According to Kyle, "My dad was there and I shot with an AR-15. After, I posted a few pictures and videos."

Kashuv was quickly called out for visiting a gun range and posting about it by a variety of other students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. But that wasn't the end of the story. When Kyle went to school today, his principal informed him that other students had been upset by his posts, but that he hadn't done anything wrong. But according to Kyle, in the middle of the morning, events took a different turn:

The article goes on to state the following, quoting Kashuv’s account of the incident:

Near the end of third period, my teacher got a call from the office saying I need to go down and see a Mr. Greenleaf. I didn't know Mr. Greenleaf, but it turned out that he was an armed school resource officer. I went down and found him, and he escorted me to his office. Then a second security officer walked in and sat behind me. Both began questioning me intensely. First, they began berating my tweet, although neither of them had read it; then they began aggressively asking questions about who I went to the range with, whose gun we used, about my father, etc. They were incredibly condescending and rude.

Then a third officer from the Broward County Sheriff's Office walked in, and began asking me the same questions again. At that point, I asked whether I could record the interview. They said no. I asked if I had done anything wrong. Again, they answered no. I asked why I was there. One said, "Don't get snappy with me, do you not remember what happened here a few months ago?"

They continued to question me aggressively, though they could cite nothing I had done wrong. They kept calling me "the pro-Second Amendment kid." I was shocked and honestly, scared. It definitely felt like they were attempting to intimidate me.

I was treated like a criminal for no reason other than having gone to the gun range and posted on social media about it.

"They're all saying what a great relationship we have and they're actually correct. It's not fake news … But we do have a very special relationship," Trump told reporters. "In fact, I'll get that little piece of dandruff off. We have to make him perfect. He is perfect."

REPORT: Obama DOJ’s attempts to influence investigations exposed in McCabe probe

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 08:39 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by WASHINGTONTIMES.COM:

Tucked inside the inspector general's report on former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was the story of an August 2016 phone call from a high-ranking Justice Department official who Mr. McCabe thought was trying to shut down the FBI's investigation into the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was running for president.

The official was "very pissed off" at the FBI, the report says, and demanded to know why the FBI was still pursuing the Clinton Foundation when the Justice Department considered the case dormant.

The article goes on to state the following:

Former FBI officials said the fact that a call was made is even more stunning than its content. James Wedick, who conducted corruption investigations at the bureau, said he never fielded a call from the Justice Department about any of his cases during 35 years there. He said it suggested interference.

According to the report, the call came from Matthew Axelrod, the principal associate deputy attorney general at the Justice Department, who served in that role from February 2015 to January 2017.

"According to McCabe, he pushed back, asking 'are you telling me that I need to shut down a validly predicated investigation?'" the report said. "McCabe told us that the conversation was 'very dramatic' and he never had a similar confrontation like the PADAG call with a high-level department official in his entire FBI career."

OP-ED: Trump saves millions of working-class families from Obamacare penalty

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 07:56 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM:

The Trump administration just quietly made it possible to escape having to pay the Obamacare fine imposed for not having health insurance in 2018, potentially saving millions of families hundreds or even thousands of dollars in penalties.

When congressional Republicans passed tax reform inDecember, they gutted the provision of the Affordable Care Act mandating uninsured Americans pay a fee for not having "qualifying" health insurance. Although this important decision will provide tax relief to millions of people forced to pay a fine for not being enrolled in a health insurance plan the government approves of, a completely ridiculous mandate that greatly limits freedom, the new policy does not go into effect until 2019, which means families are still required to have health insurance this year to avoid paying the penalty.

The article goes on to state the following:

The Affordable Care Act allows for people who do not have qualifying health insurance to escape paying the penalty if they apply for at least one of a few available "hardship exemptions." Perhaps the most common exemption allows people to escape the penalty if they "experienced financial or domestic circumstances, including an unexpected natural or human-caused event, such that … [they had] a significant, unexpected increase in essential expenses that prevented [them] from obtaining coverage under a qualified health plan."

Earlier in April, the Trump administration's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a new guidance expanding the allowed exemptions to include four new qualifying circumstances: (1) living in a region where there is just one health insurer selling plans in an Obamacare marketplace, (2) living in a region where there are no plans sold on an Obamacare exchange, (3) the lack of availability of a plan that doesn't include coverage for abortion, and (4) when a person is unable to find a plan on the Obamacare exchange that covers the "specialty care" needed.

REPORT: Horrifying details emerge why babysitter beat 3-year-old girl to death (video)

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 07:46 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by FOX32CHICAGO.COM:

FOX NEWS – An alleged beating of a 3-year-old Ohio girl that led to her death last month was sparked by the toddler dumping ketchup in a toilet, according to court documents released Monday.

Hannah Wesche, 3, of Hamilton Township, was left brain dead after she was beaten by babysitter Lindsay Partin between March 6 and March 8, prosecutors wrote in court papers obtained by FOX19.

“All because Partin says (Hannah) dumped ketchup in the toilet,” Butler County Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Heile wrote in the documents.

The article goes on to state the following:

The 35-year-old called 911 on March 8 and told a dispatcher that Hannah had “passed out” after her father had dropped her off. First responders found Hannah unresponsive, with labored breathing and obvious bruises on her head and face, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives and hospital personnel also noted additional bruising on Hannah’s body, officials said.

Partin later admitted to striking the toddler and stated she had fallen and struck her head on the concrete garage floor the previous day, the sheriff’s office said.

Hannah was pronounced dead on March 17.

The report states that Parlin has been charged with endangering children, murder and involuntary manslaughter, but is currently free on a $75,000 cash bond until her next court date.

Medicare ID scam targets seniors receiving new cards

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 07:24 AM PDT

Although millions of people 65 or older will soon receive new Medicare cards to prevent identity theft, fraudsters are exploiting the nationwide rollout to attempt to convince seniors to reveal personal information.

The new Medicare cards will not feature Social Security numbers, but will identify individuals with an 11-character combination of numbers and letters. Distribution of the new cards began in April, and will be sent to 58 million Medicare recipients across the nation.

According to the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, scammers are cold calling seniors regarding the new cards in an effort to steal Social Security numbers, bank account numbers and credit card information.

“They’re sneaky. Very sneaky,” Virginia Baize, of Muncie, Ind., told WTHR-TV last week.

Baize and her husband have noticed an increase in phone solicitations from scammers posing as telemarketers, although they have not yet received their new Medicare cards.

Nancy Moore, Indiana's Senior Medicare Patrol program director, said that phishing scams targeting seniors are on the rise because scammers are desperately trying to convince seniors to divulge their Social Security numbers before those numbers disappear from Medicare cards.

“It’s happening nationwide and it’s happening in Indiana,” Moore said. “People need to know Medicare won’t call you. They only operate via U.S. mail, but the scammers are very persistent. If they call you, just hang up. Don’t give out any personal information. They’re just really after your Social Security number.”

How drinking water helps you lose weight

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 07:14 AM PDT

Drinking water has long been associated with improved weight loss, with many studies showing that consuming more water might result in weight loss and maintenance.

There are several ways that drinking water might help you achieve your weight loss goals.

  • Drinking Water Can Make You Burn More Calories
Drinking 0.5 liters (17 oz) of water may increase the amount of calories you burn for at least one hour. Some studies have revealed that this can contribute to modest weight loss. Results may be greater if the water is cold, since your body uses extra calories to warm the water to body temperature.
  • Drinking Water Before Meals Can Reduce Appetite
Middle-aged and older adults may experience lower caloric intake by drinking water prior to meals in an effort to reduce appetite. The reduced caloric intake may lead to weight loss. Studies of younger individuals have not yielded the same results in reduction of calorie intake.
  • Drinking More Water is Linked to Reduced Calorie Intake and a Lower Risk of Weight Gain. Consuming more water throughout the day may result in decreased calorie intake and reduce the risk of long-term weight gain and obesity, especially in children.

How much water should you drink? According to studies, 1–2 liters of water per day is enough to contribute to weight loss, especially when consumed prior to meals, Healthline reported. So drink up! Water is 100 percent calorie free, and sugar free as well.

REPORT: Calexit plan to divorce California from US getting second chance

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:50 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by CNBC:

California’s secession movement will get a second try as the state’s “war” against the Trump administration rages on several fronts.

On Monday, the California Secretary of State’s Office announced that a secession ballot proposal has been cleared to begin gathering needed signatures. It comes amid other efforts that seek to split up California.

The article goes on to state the following:

“Calexit is left — we are progressive, and that’s why we don’t like Trump,” said Marcus Ruiz Evans, one of the leaders of the Yes California campaign seeking California independence. “But there are some very hardcore Republican concepts to Calexit, including the group saying don’t waste our tax money.”

Evans said the group’s membership has risen by “about four times” to roughly 44,000 members since the election of President Donald Trump.

CNBC also reported:

If the current Calexit measure gets enough signatures to qualify, it would result in a special election in 2021 to ask California voters whether the state should become an independent country. The backers need almost 366,000 signatures of registered voters to qualify it for the ballot.

However, some analysts suggest the secession effort has a long shot passing. A Berkeley IGS Poll released in March 2017 found Californians oppose independence from the U.S. by more than 2-to-1.

Cost of living is pushing people to live in border state

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:42 AM PDT

In order to save money, a California company that manufactures workbenches and lab furniture is relocating to Goodyear, near Phoenix, Arizona, where it will create 30 new jobs.

Matt McConnell, director of sales and marketing for IAC Industries, said that the company is moving from Brea, Calif., to increase the stability and longevity of the business.

"The commercial property costs in California versus the commercial property costs in other states" made the decision easy, according to McConnell.

Twenty IAC employees have moved already or have committed to moving to Goodyear as well.

In 2017, the Census Bureau estimated that Arizona gained 107,628 residents, one of largest population gains in the nation. Analysts told Cronkite News that the rapid population growth should contribute to a promising job market and a strong recovery in housing.

Lower taxes are also attracting new residents to Arizona. State income taxes cost Californians nearly twice as much as Arizonans, with the individual income tax rate at 4.54 percent in Arizona and 9.3 percent in California.

North American Moving Services reported that, in 2017, California was one of the top five states in the U.S. for people moving out. Arizona was the top recipient for inbound moves.

Data from the U.S. Census American Community Surveys indicated that more than 30,000 people have left California for Arizona in each of the past three years.

Oscar Wei, senior economist at the California Association of Realtors, said the cost of living and doing business in California clearly are the main factors influencing people to leave California and move to Arizona.

Wei said, "California is about 60 percent higher than Arizona in general in terms of the state median price."

The cost of living in Orange County is 56 percent higher than it is in Phoenix, according to NerdWallet.

REPORT: Chicago mayor warns Democrats to drop Trump impeachment talk

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:33 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM:

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel warned Democrats on Monday against politicizing the potential impeachment of President Trump.

"This is a serious legal and constitutional, not political, issue. … I couldn’t be angrier at Donald Trump. … That said, you don’t just flippantly say: We’re for [impeachment],"Emanuel told Axios.

The article goes on to state the following:

Emanuel said the legal standard for impeaching a president has not been met yet, amid calls from some Democrats to impeach Trump as special counsel Robert Mueller investigates the Trump campaign's alleged ties to Russia. Republicans have also warned their voters that Democrats will move to impeach Trump if they gain control of the House in November.

"[Y]ou don’t just treat … the policy standard of impeachment … as a political tool. It’s a constitutional standard and, when that standard has been met, we’ll know about it. … This is a case where the best politics is good policy," he argued

US News names the best, most affordable vacation in Caribbean

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:24 AM PDT

U.S. News & World Report has named Curaçao the Best Affordable Caribbean Destination.

The idyllic island features historic settlements, rugged landscapes and plenty of bright sunshine. Willemstad, Curaçao’s main port city, is the epitome of an Old World European city placed on a Caribbean island. Dutch colonial buildings in Willemstad are painted pink, yellow and blue, with a backdrop of the sapphire St. Anna Bay.

Outside the city, the landscape gives way to desert, with spiny aloe and mesquite sprouting from atop weathered limestone cliffs.

Curaçao’s beaches are the main attraction, with picture-perfect bays and coves lining the shores of the island, their turquoise waters lapping gently against powdery white sand. The reefs off of Curaçao are teeming with marine life, making it an attractive destination for scuba divers and snorkelers.

The best feature, according the U.S. News, is that the semi-arid island is sheltered from the worst of the Atlantic’s hurricane season because it is located on the outer fringe of the hurricane belt. Gentle trade winds keep temperatures in the mid-80s, so the outdoors can be enjoyed year-round.

For budget-conscious visitors, U.S. News recommends visiting Curaçao in the off season. Travelers visiting Curaçao during the summer can save up to 50 percent on hotels and flights. The most affordable way to get around Willemstad and other major tourists destinations is to take the bus and travel in the island’s “convoys.”

Curaçao has also been rated by U.S. News as #3 in Best Places to Visit in August, and #4 in Best Places to Visit in the Caribbean.

REPORT: State to unveil new LGBTQ-themed school curriculum

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 06:14 AM PDT

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by TheHill.com:

Schools in Massachusetts will soon be able to test out a new LGBTQ-themed curriculum.

The Boston Herald reported Tuesday that the state will release the new curriculum this summer and classes will be able to pick it up in the fall.

The lessons were developed by a group of teachers working with the Massachusetts Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth, and will include lessons on events like the 1969 Stonewall Riots and LGBTQ writers like Langston Hughes.

The article goes on to state the following:

The creators of the new units told the Herald that it's important for LGBTQ students to be able to see themselves in the lessons taught in the classroom.

"Students need to see themselves reflected and see others who are different from themselves," Jeff Perrotti, the director of the Massachusetts Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students, told the paper. "It is important that all students feel safe, valued and respected in school so they can be ready to learn."

The report stated that it will be up to each local school to decide whether they will use the new curriculum.

STUDY: A certain spray may help stop depression and suicide (details)

Posted: 24 Apr 2018 05:54 AM PDT

Psychiatrists are cautiously optimistic after a small, early study revealed that a nasal spray containing the club drug ketamine appears to quickly assist in easing depression and even hinders thoughts of suicide.

“This study only had 68 people enrolled, which is a limitation, so there really needs to be larger-scale studies before being able to confidently recommend ketamine as a first-line choice,” said Dr. Matthew Lorber, a psychiatrist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Lorber was not associated with the study, which was funded by pharmaceutical company Janssen and published April 16 in The American Journal of Psychiatry.

Lorber noted that longer-term studies need to be conducted, “but ketamine is certainly an exciting option that holds a lot of promise, especially when traditional medications have failed.”

Although ketamine is likely best known as the recreational club drug “Special K,” researchers have recognized its effects in easing depression, Web MD reported.

Researchers called the study “proof-of-concept” that “intranasal esketamine may be an efficacious treatment for rapid reduction of depressive symptoms, including suicidal ideation [thoughts] in patients assessed to be at imminent risk for suicide.”

Some participants experienced side effects, including nausea, dizziness, dissociation (a sense of being disconnected from reality) and headache.

The researchers also noted that while the benefits shown in this small study were encouraging, ketamine comes with potential for abuse.

In an editorial that accompanied the study, journal editor Dr. Robert Freedman acknowledged that “protection of the public’s health is part of our responsibility as well, and as physicians, we are responsible for preventing new drug epidemics.”

Dr. Robert Dicker, who helps direct child and adolescent psychiatry at Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, N.Y., made the case that new and improved depression medications are needed.

“One must keep in mind that the prevalence of depression in our adult population is high — 1 in 15,” Dicker said. “That depression is the most common diagnosis related to suicide [and] 1 million American adults attempt suicide [each year].

“A large number of adults being treated for depression are resistant to our current treatments, so the need to develop new treatment approaches are tremendous,” he added. “The possible utility of ketamine in treating this population is an important avenue of study.”

James Comey's book tour and media blitz have not swayed the public's perception of the former FBI director or President Trump's decision to fire him last year.

In June of 2017, just a month after Trump fired Comey, 55 percent of people polled disapproved of the move while 40 percent approved, and in an April 2018 survey conducted by SurveyMonkey and Axios, the results yielded the exact same numbers.
