Watch the New Trailer for VENOM

Posted: 23 Apr 2018 09:28 PM PDT

After teasing fans earlier this year with a video that hid the full Venom reveal, everyone's favorite alien Symbiote is now on full display in the new trailer release from Sony.

In Venom, Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock, a man who becomes linked with an alien Symbiote that turns him into Venom, one of the ultimate villains in the Spider-Man universe. Although Venom and the Symbiote have a big influence on Spider-Man in the Marvel comic books, this film is expected to take place outside of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, which includes the appearance by the web-slinger in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) directed Venom from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal on board as producers. In addition to Hardy, Venom stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Reid Scott, and Jenny Slate.

Venom / Eddie Brock was previously portrayed by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, and the character first appeared on the paneled page in 1988's The Amazing Spider-Man #300.

Venom is scheduled to come out in theaters on October 5th from Sony Pictures. Stay tuned to Daily Dead and check out the new trailer and poster below!

Synopsis: "One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom."

Posted: 23 Apr 2018 06:41 PM PDT

April's home entertainment releases are closing out on a strong note, as we have a bunch of great titles coming our way on Tuesday. Arrow Video has put together a stellar Special Edition set for Killer Klowns from Outer Space that fans are definitely going to want to pick up, and Kino Lorber has given the cult classic The Boneyard an HD overhaul as well. Scream Factory is keeping busy with a trio of cinematic treats—Daughters of Satan, the Collector's Edition of Cyborg and a Troll/Troll 2 double feature—and Full Moon has put together a special set for the original Puppet Master to boot.

Other notable releases for April 24th include The Maze 3D, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, 7 Guardians of the Tomb, Him, and Dead Justice.

The Boneyard (Kino Lorber, Blu-ray)

A policeman (Ed Nelson) and a psychic (Deborah Rose) link cult mayhem to a morgue (run by Norman Fell) where ancient ghouls are on the loose. The film plunges into the nightmarish experiences of a portly, depressed psychic (Deborah Rose), whose involvement in a grisly child-murder case leads her and her detective partner (Ed Nelson) to an imposing, fortress-like mortuary. Chen the owner of the funeral home and prime suspect in the case, claims the three mummified corpses in question are not children but ancient demons known as "Kyoshi". It seems the little monsters have been around for centuries as a result of an age-old curse and can only be placated with offerings of human flesh — with which the mortician has been supplying them his entire life. When Chen is jailed on murder charges, the under-fed ghouls awaken in search of dinner, trapping the staff inside the mortuary walls and devouring them. The survivors, including Rose and Nelson, use every means at their disposal to combat the demons, which have possessed the bodies of morgue attendant Mrs. Poopinplatz (Phyllis Diller) and her poodle, mutating them into hideous monsters.

Only Pearl Prophet (Dayle Haddon), a beautiful half human/half cyborg, has the knowledge necessary to develop a vaccine. But during her quest to gather data and bring the cure to the world, Pearl is captured by cannibalistic Flesh Pirates who plot to keep the antidote for themselves and rule the world. Now, only saber-wielding hero Gibson Rickenbacker (Van Damme) can rescue her and save civilization.

Daughters of Satan (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)

Tom Selleck Stars In A Bewitching Occult Thriller! Be careful what you witch for with this spellbinding thriller that delves into the realms of ancient covens and the conquistadors who loathe them. Tom Selleck delivers a commanding performance as James Robertson, an antique dealer living in Manila. James buys a Spanish painting dating back to 1592 from an art gallery ... because the painting depicts three witches being burned at the stake and one of the witches has an uncanny resemblance to James' wife, Chris. But the similarity turns out to be much more than a coincidence when Chris becomes possessed by the spirit of her evil doppelganger. She soon meets two local women who resemble the other two witches from the painting. The three decide to murder James, as he may be a descendant of the conquistador responsible for the burning of the original coven.

Bruce Campbell Announces Retirement from His Portrayal of Ash

Posted: 23 Apr 2018 06:10 PM PDT

Through three feature films and three seasons of a TV series, Bruce Campbell showed us that even on your worst, limb-losing, blood-spattered days, life can still be groovy. Now, after nearly four decades since he first played Ash Williams, Campbell has announced his retirement from the portrayal of the iconic chainsaw-revving character.

In a heartfelt letter to his fans on Facebook, Campbell announced his retirement from playing Ash, the ultimate Deadite slayer. The announcement comes in the wake of Starz's cancelation of Ash vs Evil Dead after three seasons (the series finale airs on April 29th).

Even though Campbell is retiring from his portrayal of Ash Williams, that doesn't mean we won't see future stories told in the Evil Dead universe, although no announcements of future projects have been made. In the meantime, though, you can read Campbell's message to his fans below (via Facebook), and be sure to take time to reflect upon and say farewell to one of the most iconic character portrayals in horror history.

"Good people, Evil Dead fans everywhere, I bid you a heartfelt farewell playing Ash - the character I took acting lessons with for 39 years.

I am hereby retiring from that portrayal. It's time. I followed Ash from his formative years thru his mid-life crisis and decline. What a thrill! What a privilege!

We had a great resurgence with the help of Starz (kudos not jeers, folks). They made it possible for 15 more hours of Evil Dead-ness in your life - the equivalent of 10 more features!

Is Ash dead? Never. Ash is as much a concept as a person. Where there is evil in this world, there must be one to counter - man or woman, it matters not.

Thanks for watching.

Love,

Bruce"

PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH Acquired by RLJE Films for North American Distribution, Theatrical Release Planned for August

Posted: 23 Apr 2018 04:18 PM PDT

Following its well-received screening at the 2018 Overlook Film Festival, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (written by Bone Tomahawk director S. Craig Zahler) has been acquired for North American distribution by RLJE Films, with a theatrical release planned for August:

Press Release: LOS ANGELESApril 23, 2018 – RLJE Films, a brand of RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE), has acquired all North American rights to highly anticipated horror movie Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich.  The reimagining of the Full Moon Features cult classic stars Thomas Lennon (TV's "Reno 911!"), Jenny Pellicer (TV's "Cocaine Godmother"), Nelson Franklin (TV's "Veep"), Charlyne Yi (This is 40), Michael Pare (Eddie and the Cruisers), and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator).  The iconic Udo Kier (Brawl in Cell Block 99) stars as the titular character.  Written by S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) and directed by Sonny Laguna (We Are Monsters) and Tommy Wiklund (Wither), RLJE Films plans to release the movie in theaters in August 2018.

Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk produced Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich for Cinestate, the Texas-based entertainment company that recently acquired Fangoria magazine.  This shall be the first feature released under the resurrected Fangoria label.  Sonnier and Zahler courted original franchise creator Charles Band for the right to produce an all new take on the idea, with Band serving as Executive Producer.

"We are incredibly excited to be able to bring the first film under the new Fangoria brand to audiences this summer," said RLJE Films' Chief Acquisitions Officer Mark Ward. "With an amazing script from S. Craig Zahler and performances from horror legends Barbara Crampton and Udo Kier, we know Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich will thrill fans of the original films and new audiences alike."

In Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, recently divorced and reeling, Edgar (Lennon) returns to his childhood home to regroup his life. When Edgar finds a nefarious looking puppet in his deceased brother's room, he decides to sell the doll for some quick cash at a small-town convention celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. Girl-next-door Ashley (Pellicer) and his comic book shop boss, Markowitz (Franklin), join Edgar for the doomed road trip. All hell breaks loose when a strange force animates the puppets at the convention, setting them on a bloody killing spree that's motivated by an evil as old as time.

In addition to the talented cast and filmmakers involved in Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, the legendary Fabio Frizzi (Zombi 2The Beyond) composed the score for the movie and two-time finalist of Syfy's FACE-OFF, Tate Steinsiek, served as puppet creator/SFX artist.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich maintains all of the brutally inventive puppet kills infused with the comedic tendencies that made the original franchise so popular with fans, while expanding upon Toulon's backstory and developing richer dialogue, characters, and narratives.

The original Puppet Master is an American horror movie franchise that focuses on a group of anthropomorphic puppets, each equipped with their own unique and dangerous device. Produced by Band and his Full Moon Features label, the series was established in 1989 with the eponymous first installment, which has since been followed by numerous sequels, comic books, collector's items and toys.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich was also produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (1492) and Mark Vahradian (Transformers).  It was executive produced by Adam Donaghey (A Ghost Story), Johnathan Brownlee (The Incident at Sparrow Creek Lumber), Wayne Marc Godfrey (The Foreigner), Robert Jones (The Usual Suspects), Rick Prince (Enuattii) and Red Sanders (A Bad Idea Gone Wrong).  Frequent Laguna & Wiklund partner David Liljeblad also produced.

Ward and Jess De Leo from RLJE negotiated the deal with Sonnier on behalf of Cinestate.

Photos of Sideshow Collectibles’ Gotham City Nightmare Collection Joker Statue

Posted: 23 Apr 2018 10:48 AM PDT

Sideshow Collectibles presents the man, the myth, the legend, the Joker. Their new Gotham City Nightmare Collection Joker Statue stands 20 inches tall, is made of polystone, vinyl, and PVC materials, and we have a look at a photo gallery of the incredibly detailed depiction of Batman's nemesis:

Gotham City Nightmare Collection Joker Statue: "Sideshow is thrilled to present The Joker Statue, the next twisted face in the Gotham City Nightmare collection, which dares to ask, what would the familiar faces of Gotham become when viewed through eyes filled with fear?

"We took the insanity of The Joker and made his entire makeup a tableau of bas-relief Easter eggs of his entire existence," Creative Director Tom Gilliland explained.

The Joker Statue measures 20" tall, emerging from a chemical vat filled with venomous green acid. Beneath copper-colored pipes, the architecture of Gotham City can be seen laying the groundwork for the rise of this nightmarish Clown Prince of Crime.

"All it takes is one bad day" to make The Joker Statue your most frightening nightmare yet! This intricate statue is bursting with brilliant details revealing just what makes The Joker who he is, sculpted in polystone with vinyl and PVC elements. From Ace Chemicals to the famed Arkham Asylum as his backbone, The Joker Statue will keep you captivated by the horror as you search for references to the some of the villain's most infamous moments.

"We wanted a very organic collage of all the elements of The Joker's life and his character intermeshed into his body," Designer Paul Komoda added.

Spot Harley Quinn and Red Hood, a school of Joker Fish and freakish faces, and homages to artists like Jim Lee, Frank Miller, Dave McKean, and more all wrapped up in this warped vision of the Clown Prince of Crime. Can you find all the hidden secrets? Lean in closer, but beware The Joker as he offers you a gag flower- or else the joke may be on you!

The Exclusive edition of The Joker comes with a swap-out portrait revealing another face of his nightmarish insanity, with a closed mouth and curled green hair. The Exclusive edition also includes a small pedestal for displaying the alternate portrait, a jack-in-the-box bubbling over with noxious chemicals.

Have the last laugh and add The Joker Statue from Gotham City Nightmare to your collection today.

Expected to Ship: Nov 2018 - Jan 2019

Price: $535"

Warner Bros. Sets 2019 Release Date for Untitled Movie in THE CONJURING Cinematic Universe

Posted: 23 Apr 2018 10:38 AM PDT

The summer of 2019 could see the release of a new movie in The Conjuring cinematic universe, but which film will it be?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has slated an untitled movie in The Conjuring universe for a July 3rd, 2019 release.

While the untitled movie has yet to be revealed, it was reported last summer that New Line Cinema was developing a spinoff movie based on the creepy Crooked Man supernatural character from The Conjuring 2.

The Crooked Man (a character from the English nursery rhyme "There Was a Crooked Man") provided viewers of the Conjuring sequel with ample amounts of nightmare fuel when his long limbs and lean frame (not unlike Slender Man or the Endgrave from the Stoney Creek podcast) stalked the halls of the Enfield house in The Conjuring 2. Actor and incredible contortionist Javier Botet portrayed the Crooked Man in the Conjuring sequel, and although it's not yet known if this new Conjuring movie will be a Crooked Man film, it could be fun to see Botet reprise the role.

Currently in the works with Mike Van Waes writing a screenplay from a story by James Wan (who will also produce along with Peter Safran), the Crooked Man movie would be the latest spinoff in an expanded cinematic universe that also includes The Nun (coming out this September) and the Annabelle films.

The untitled Conjuring movie could also be The Conjuring 3, which is in development with David Leslie Johnson writing a screenplay for the further adventures of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are announced. What new Conjuring movie would you like to see on the big screen?

In addition to directing over 20 episodes of The Walking Dead for which he and his team have won numerous awards, Mr. Nicotero has worked on hundreds of film and television projects throughout his career, including Day of the DeadFrank Herbert's Dune, and The Chronicles of Narnia. He has owned and operated his special effects studio, KNB EFX Group, based in Los Angeles, since 1988.

The event is a futuristic world's fair to promote informal STEAM educational activities within the context of science fiction using the fun of comic cons and fascination of science and engineering festivals. Escape Velocity 2018 seeks to make a measurable positive impact to boost informal learning on the more conceptually challenging academic areas. Escape Velocity's mission is to attract young people to science, technology, engineering, art, and math by producing and presenting the most compelling, exciting, educational, and entertaining science festival in the United States using science fiction as its primary engine. Escape Velocity will achieve orbit on May 25-27, 2018 at the Marriott Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC.
