COMEY MEMOS: TOLD TRUMP HE’S NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, PRES WANTS FBI TO MAKE IT PUBLIC

Posted: 19 Apr 2018 08:36 PM PDT

House GOP: Docs prove Comey never felt obstructed, Trump wanted collusion accusations investigated

COMEY MEMOS RELEASED
  • “I reminded [Trump] that I had told him we weren’t investigating him and that I had told the Congressional leadership the same thing,” Comey wrote. “[Trump] said it would be great if that could get out and several times asked me to find a way to get that out.”

Memos written by former FBI Director James Comey about his interactions with President Trump showed that the president repeatedly asked Comey to make public that he was not under investigation over contacts between Russian officials and members of his campaign.

The memos were released to congressional committees Thursday night and obtained by Fox News. GOP lawmakers said the memos proved Comey never felt obstructed, fighting a claim from many Democrats that Trump tried to hold up the FBI’s investigation into alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

The memos also showed that eight days after he was sworn in as president, Trump told Comey during a one-on-one dinner at the White House that he “needed loyalty and expected loyalty.”

Comey wrote that he “did not reply, or even nod or change my facial expression, which [Trump] noted because we came back to it later.”

At a later point, Comey wrote that Trump told him directly, “I need loyalty.”

“I replied that he would always get honesty from me,” said Comey. “[Trump] paused and said that’s what he wants, ‘honest loyalty.’ I replied, ‘you will get that from me.'”

“It is possible we understood that phrase differently,” Comey added as a parenthetical, “but I chose to understand it as consistent with what I had said throughout the conversation: I will serve the President with loyalty to the office, the country, and the truth. I decided it would not be productive to push the subject further.”

More than two months later, on March 30, Comey wrote that Trump had called him and pressed the FBI director to make public that the president was not under investigation over contacts between Russian officials and members of his campaign.

“I reminded [Trump] that I had told him we weren’t investigating him and that I had told the Congressional leadership the same thing,” Comey wrote. “[Trump] said it would be great if that could get out and several times asked me to find a way to get that out.”

REPORT: Trump Informed He’s Not ‘Target’ Of Mueller – says Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein…Just Wasting Taxpayers Money Then?

( Daily Caller ) President Donald Trump has been informed by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein that he is not a target of the special counsel's investigation, Bloomberg News reports.

Rosenstein offered up the information on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation voluntarily, prompting Trump to tone down his rhetoric that it is time to fire them both. Trump was particularly incensed in recent weeks by an FBI raid on his personal lawyer Michael Cohen's office. The raid was prompted by information uncovered by Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump addressed the prospect of firing Rosenstein and Mueller during a Wednesday press conference in Mar-a-lago saying, "they have been saying I am going to get rid of them for the last three months. Four months, five months. And they are still here."

DEMOCRAT OPERATIVE: ‘IT’S CLEAR’ ERIC HOLDER IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Posted: 19 Apr 2018 10:29 AM PDT

Democrat operative Doug Schoen told Varney and Co. on Thursday that former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder is likely to run for president in 2020.

Doug Schoen: Everything I've seen and been told says he will run it's clear based on his appearance at the National Action Network with Al Sharpton that he's gonna position himself like Obama to approach in court the African-American and progressive vote. He's somebody who had a couple of scandals, the fast and furious, the conservative donors. Well so the left has problems with him because he didn't prosecute anyone coming out of the financial crisis. More candidates, the better it is for Donald Trump.
