REPORT: White House beefs up legal team with 17 new attorneys to battle Democrats, Mueller

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 10:32 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by NBCNews.com:

The White House has beefed up its legal team in recent weeks, hiring 17 additional lawyers to help prevent President Donald Trump’s discussions with top advisers from being obtained House Democrats or revealed to special counsel Robert Mueller, The Washington Post reported.

The White House plan is to assert Trump’s executive privilege on both fronts. That strategy is being led by new White House Counsel Pat Cipollone, and aides said the goal is to preserve a legal protection that past presidents have invoked.

The article goes on to state the following:

But with Democrats planning to go as far as subpoenaing the administration for information, such a strategy could quickly inflame tensions between the two sides and may lead to lengthy legal battles.

Some Democrats have already pledged to subpoena a copy of Mueller’s full report should the White House seek to to block any portions of it from being made public.

REPORT: US apparel firm cuts off Chinese factory in internment camp

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 10:24 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by APNEWS.COM:

A U.S. supplier of T-shirts and other team apparel to college bookstores cut its ties Wednesday with a Chinese company that drew workers from an internment camp holding targeted members of ethnic minority groups.

In recent years, authorities in the far west Chinese region of Xinjiang have detained an estimated 1 million Uighurs and Kazakhs in heavily-secured facilities where detainees say they are ordered to renounce their language and religion while pledging loyalty to the China's ruling Communist Party.

The article goes on to state the following:

Last month an Associated Press investigation found the Chinese government had also started forcing some detainees to work in manufacturing and food industries. The investigation tracked recent shipments from one such factory, the privately-owned Hetian Taida Apparel, located inside an internment camp, to Badger Sportswear, a leading supplier in Statesville, North Carolina.

In a statement posted to its website, Badger said Wednesday it will no longer do business with Hetian Taida, nor import any goods from the same region "given the controversy around doing business" there.

"Furthermore, we will not ship any product sourced from Hetian Taida currently in our possession," the company said, adding that the supplier accounted for about 1 percent of Badger's total annual sales.

REPORT: GOP lawmakers and journalists slam Steve King’s ’embrace of racism’ over his quotes in NY Times story

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 10:17 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by TheHill.com:

Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.) on Thursday condemned fellow Republican Rep. Steve King (Iowa) for comments questioning why terms like “white nationalist” and “white supremacist” were offensive, calling them “an embrace of racism.”

“This is an embrace of racism, and it has no place in Congress or anywhere,” Amash tweeted shortly after King’s comments surfaced.

The report continued with the following:

"White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?" King asked in an interview with The New York Times published Thursday. "Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?"

The comments were made in a report on King’s hard-line views on immigration.

The statement prompted backlash from a number of journalists, commentators and lawmakers.

Patrick Healy of the New York Times posted a long thread of comments on Twitter regarding the exclusive story and interview they did with King.

“We just published a story looking at Congressman Steve King and his influence on Trump and the border wall debate. King is a sitting member of Congress who has used racist language and been denounced as a white supremacist by his own party,” Healy wrote.

In addition to their article, The New York Times also released the following video condemning King for his views on immigration.

REPORT: After Falling Short, U.S. Army Gets Creative With New Recruiting Strategy

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:59 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by NPR.ORG:

Uncle Sam may want Generation Z, but the feeling doesn’t seem to be mutual.

That’s the conclusion recruiters relayed to General Frank Muth, the head of Army Recruiting Command, last July when he spoke with them to figure out why the Army fell short of its recruiting goal by 6,500 people in the last fiscal year.

The article goes on to state the following:

In an effort to ramp up recruitment, the Army this year is trying something different.

As part of a new strategy, the Army is rethinking its approach toward Generation Z — those born between the mid-1990s and mid-2000s — by going digital, getting creative about selling itself and expanding efforts in different parts of the country.

The Army has shifted its focus from more conservative parts of the U.S. that traditionally fill its ranks — locations across the South from Virginia to Texas — towards 22 left-leaning cities across the country, like Boston, Seattle and San Francisco.

REPORT: Chamber of Commerce vows to push USMCA trade deal through Congress

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:47 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM:

Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue said Thursday that his organization was going to ensure that the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade made it through Congress, calling it a top priority for the year.

The Chamber’s next priority would be to pressure the Trump administration to exempt Canada and Mexico from the steel and aluminum tariffs it has imposed on its neighbor countries, he added.

The article goes on to state the following:

“First of all, we are going to get it done,” Donohue told reporters after giving his organization’s “State of American Business” speech Thursday. He said that 14 million jobs depend on the trade between the three countries.

The deal is expected to face opposition from both parties in Congress. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has been noncommittal about bringing it up, saying that Mexico has first to reform its labor laws to make the deal’s provisions acceptable.

VIDEO: Media had no problem calling it a border ‘crisis’ in 2014 under Obama

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:39 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following OPINION EDITORIAL written by Eddie Scarry and published by WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM:

Both Democrats and most news media are yelling as often as they can that there is no border “crisis,” even though they spent the last year telling everyone there was and even though they had no problem explicitly calling it a “crisis” in 2014, when the situation was the exact same as it is now.

In 2019, we now have an actual humanitarian crisis on the borer that only underscores the need to drop the politics and fix our immigration system once and for all,” then-President Barack Obama said in the Rose Garden. “In recent weeks we’ve seen a surge of unaccompanied children arrive at the border, brought here and to other countries by smugglers and traffickers.”

This is no different than what President Trump said from the Oval Office on Tuesday.

The article goes on to state the following:

The only difference is how the media are covering it.

The Washington Post on July 12, 2014, referred to “the current crisis on the Southwest border, where authorities have apprehended tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central American children since October …” The story’s lead author was Karen Tumulty, now a columnist for the Post, who completely dismissed the idea of any crisis at the border this week.

REPORT: Pro-life actor plans to build world’s tallest Jesus statue

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:31 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by FOXNEWS.COM:

The world’s biggest statue of Jesus is coming to one of the most dangerous parts of Mexico.

Eduardo Verastegui, a prominent Mexican Catholic actor and pro-life advocate, plans to build the statue called “Christ of Peace” at a towering 252 feet, nearly twice the size of Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, which stands at 125 feet in Brazil. The current record holder is Christ the King statue in Poland, which is 172 feet high.

The article goes on to state the following:

The new statue of Jesus, designed by Mexican architect Fernando Romero, will depict Christ with outstretched arms as if offering a hug to His people, Mexico News Daily reported.

Promoters say it will show “a message of faith, love, hope, and peace” to Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas, a state that borders Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border. The state has recently been rocked by violent confrontations between security forces and drug dealers, but Verastegui said the purpose of the project is to leave a legacy of peace in the region.

Developers hope to turn the area into a thriving tourist destination and a place of pilgrimage that will be able to hold up to 10,000 people for special events.

BREAKING: McConnell blocks House bills to reopen government

Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:15 AM PST

As the most reliable and balanced news aggregation service on the internet, DML News offers the following information published by TheHill.com:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday blocked two House-passed funding bills that would reopen the federal government.

Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.), surrounded by roughly two dozen of their Senate Democratic colleagues, tried to get consent to bring up a bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through Feb. 8, as well as a separate package that would fund the remaining agencies without current-year appropriations through Sept. 30.

The article goes on to state the following:

But McConnell objected, arguing they would be "show votes" and saying that he and Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) made an “explicit commitment” to avoid such votes.

"The last thing we need to do right now is trade pointless — absolutely pointless — show votes back and forth across the aisle," McConnell said.
