RIYADH: When Saudi Arabia's Shoura Council voted on Jan. 11 to ban child marriage in the Kingdom, it joined a global movement seeking to end a practice that is harmful not just to girls' health — child brides are more likely to experience domestic violence and die in childbirth — but also to their future, as they are less likely to remain in school.

JEDDAH: The tenth edition of the Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) was launched this week by the university's president, Dr. Tony Chan.
Chan stated that the WEP would provide "a platform for us to reach out to the wider region, as well as the rest of the Kingdom, so all can benefit from what we're doing at KAUST."

JEDDAH: For the first time in Saudi Arabia, Jeddah will host a multicultural festival that takes visitors on a virtual tour of 50 countries.
The global village will be set up inside Atallah Happy Land Park along the city's famous waterfront every day from 5 p.m. to midnight between Feb. 28 and March 29.
The event is one of many aiming to enhance tourism, as well as the local economy.

JEDDAH: Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan arrived in Beirut on Saturday to lead the Saudi delegation at an Arab economic summit. 

Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Walid bin Abdullah Bukhari and other embassy officials received the minister.

The meeting is the first economic and development summit to be held since 2013, and comes as Syria, Yemen and Libya remain gripped by violence and Iraq confronts a massive reconstruction challenge after its costly victory over Daesh.

Bader Saleh is a comedian, writer, editor, and actor from Saudi Arabia. He is one of the first star comedians that rose through YouTube in the Arab world. He began his career in 2010. 

He shot to fame through a show titled  "Eysh Elly" (What is) in Arabic, which was posted on his YouTube channel. The show got 395,515,437 hits and the number of subscribers to the channel exceeded 3.2 million.

Saleh gained a huge fan following. Due to his essentiality, professionalism, and influence in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, many organizations chose to work with him.

BEIRUT: Journalists from across the world gathered in Lebanon's Beirut Waterfront to cover the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit on Sunday despite the tumultuous days leading up to the event.

It was not just Arab and Middle Eastern journalists who were present at the summit's official media center; reporters from Japan, Europe and the US were also in attendance. 

There were conflicting reports on the number of journalists attending, ranging from 600 to double that. The summit's official spokesman Dany Najim said 1,200 journalists covered the event.

ISLAMABAD:  US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said on Sunday President Donald Trump should meet Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan as soon as possible to reset long-difficult US relations with Pakistan and push for a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan.

The comments, which add to growing signs of improved relations between Islamabad and Washington, come amid efforts to press on with talks between the Taliban and the United States aimed at an agreement to end 17 years of war in Afghanistan.
